Well there’s been a lot of rejection in 2020, but I finally accepted a role at a new employer today. It may not be my “dream” but I believe my possibilities are endless and they are aware of my long-term career goals. Finally some good news after all the negatives the previous year has brought me.

Can I own a franchise while on H1b visa ?

I recently asked my boss for a raise after discussing a yearly review with them. I was told because there was a company wide raise back in December, that would technically be my raise, which was $0.45/hr. I’ve stepped in to a number of roles here and feel I am not being paid adequately after taking on the extra work. I’m wondering how to go about asking for a raise of $2/hr after all this.

I am a clinical research coordinator working in Austin, Texas. I have my Masters in Cell & Molecular Biology and have a year of laboratory research experience.

Gift ideas for law student on a budget?

An Uber driver’s account was deactivated. Uber claims it’s because this person was part of a class action. He denies signing a consent form and being part of it. The class action was filed in another state and he never drove over there. Three questions - (1) if this is true, can Uber retaliate based on this. (2) if he never signed a consent form, can he be part of a class action, and (3) what’s his best course of action if he wants to drive for Uber again?

Started at a new firm 5 months ago and I still don’t have a full workload and because of that my billing sucks. I’ve reached out to my supervising attorney, 2 partners, and even looped in someone from admin just to see if she knew if anyone needs help. I specifically say things like “can I take some work off your hands? I need more billable work” and I get a few small things but still behind on my total billables. What does life look like for someone to hit 2300+ billable hours?

I’m a first year attorney at a small plaintiff’s firm. My firm has guaranteed me a $10k bonus at the end of 1 year without regard for my billable hours. They’ve also stated if I hit 2300 billable hours in my first year, they’ll add an additional $15k.

If my math checks out, that means I need to be billing ~45 hrs per week. But with only like 60% of my assignments being billable—how do I hit 2300+ and not die?

Will remote work negatively impact partnership prospects for associates in a few years? What’s the best way to get your name out there remotely?

My boss does this thing where he'll give comments like, "make sure you include the proper language regarding X." As if we always include X and I'm an idiot for not including X.

When asked if X is a new development in the law, he'll say something like "no its not new, it's something we always do." But then I if I go look at his past drafts, he didn't include X either and only started in the past couple drafts.

Why can't you just say, "I have some new language that I want to start including"?
