I'm not 40+ but Arnold Schwarzenegger had 3 careers in his lifetime. Bodybuilding, acting, politics. Dwayne Johnson. WWE, acting, general business. Vera Wang didn't start her highly successful business until she was 40. Go for it!

It’s never too late to change. Good luck!

40+ years old here as well! 😉 Think of it this way...how many more years do you have until retirement? Now, can you fathom doing the work you're doing right now for that many more years? If not, I think you've got your answer.

I've heard not so great things about Amazon's WLB but who says you have to stay forever? Bear in mind that you can jump around with the Amazon name behind you. I say go for the adventure. Can it really be that much worse than what you're doing now?

What I gathered from other people (some quit some stayed) is that you need to realise that AWS hierarchy is flat. Where some people were directors at Citi leading a 100 people, you now will run a team of 10. I moved from a big 4 senior manager position to a single contributor being called a consultant (not even senior), but getting paid a big 4 MD pay. If you are up for the adventure and not tied to titles I suggest to take the dive, so far for me its been great :)

Thank you for the kind advice. I have no problem being an individual contributor. Having worked in corporate my whole life, I know that the whole title situation is quite fake. Real is money.

Congrats! It's not crazy at all. You're the sort of hire any smart company that values experience might make. With one BUT. Don't bring any "soul-crushing" baggage - a potential liability for you and your new co-workers - with you. Keep your self-awareness radar finely-tuned during the interview and into the "eventual" work environment. Be the guy people go to for advice, guidance, inspiration and motivation vs. the old man who's the Negative-Ned, unwilling to try new things and generally the blocker to others' success. How long can one stay in bench. 2) Is there a possibility one can get into a project without these interviews.
