SO and I are both in big law (separate firms and entirely different practice areas). I love what I do. Sure, some days suck and a snide comment from opposing counsel or sudden fire drill might throw me for a loop every now and then.. but I never feel like the negative CONSUMES me. My SO does. A bad day at the office leads to an endless train of negative thoughts, self doubt, defeatism, + an overall victim mentality. It drains me. Any advice/feedback on big law culture at international firms in Dubai? A recruiter has reached out to me with regard to a big law job at a top tier firm in Dubai, but I’m worried about advancement prospects and work opportunities within the practice group/office being reduced due to my gender. I’m going to a friends house who just had a baby. I’m going to bring dinner that they can store in the fridge or freezer for a few days worth of meals but I also wanted to bring her/baby a small gift - what’s something that you would have personally loved as a gift right after giving birth and what’s something to bring the baby?? What do you do to take a mindful moment or get away from work mentally? I’m noticing myself think about work constantly (before bed, after waking up, in between watching shows, when I’m just trying to sit in peace!) I got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday of last week and it has taken me out. I’d heard that the second dose could be bad but hadn’t heard too much about the first so wasn’t expecting it. I haven’t been able to work (or really do anything) and I’m struggling! Super dizzy and lightheaded, achey, and developed a fever today. It got bad enough that I called the helpline today and they were helpful but basically just said to monitor because not much else I can do. Anyone else??

has anyone taken a big (50% or more) pay cut to move to a smaller firm / different market and glad they did? the salary is a tough pill to swallow but current firm is toxic and offer on the table with new firm which seems like it has decent people and a better lifestyle.

An observation: I realized today that unless someone mentions their gender identity, I assume every post/comment I read on FB is written by a woman (apparently my default lawyer is woman) EXCEPT the whiskey bowl, where I assume posters are male. Implicit bias is weird. (Whiskey bowl not only lawyers, so maybe that's part of it.)
