Alright be honest, how often do you take a nap during the work day while WFH…

Things I have done while WFH over the last year: napped, had sex, had sex with myself, smoked weed, drank beer, drank whiskey, drank wine, gone on a six hour drive, gone to the beach, cooked entire meals, taken my kids out to the park, gone grocery shopping, fixed a broken toilet, replaced a car battery, changed out plumbing fixtures, changed / replaced ceiling fans. Etc. Things I’ve also done while WFH: sold in new business, saved major client relationships, gotten promoted, doubled the size of my team, gotten everybody on my team raises and/or promotions etc. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past 18 months it’s that when I need to be doing work, I sit at my computer and do the work. When I need to be on a call, I can pretty much take it from anywhere, and when there’s nothing urgent at the end of the day, I take my time back.

And they wonder why people don’t want to come back to an office. It’s all about getting the work done well and on time. If those boxes are checked nothing else matters.

When you think about it, there is literally no difference between taking a nap, scrolling through your IG feed, checking your personal email, doing some online shopping, eating lunch, watching a show, etc. etc. We all deserve to take a break during the day and step away from our work to do what we want/need in order to recharge and refocus. God knows the marathon video conference calls we all suffer through on a daily basis drains our mental capacity. So, if taking a nap is what helps you ultimately do your best work… take the nap.

Literally never done this. I scramble to make myself cereal for lunch everyday and work a consistent 10-14 hour day.

Yeah but counter point, how often do I have a 6am or 7am call?

Well then a nap isn’t really a nap if you’re working global hours. Catch those zzzzs when you can!

There’s nothing wrong with naps. We shouldn’t hide that we take them or shame the practice. In fact, lots of the most productive, most innovative people in business swear by them. Also, there’s nothing heroic in working while exhausted.

likehelpful

Absolutely! There is no shame in the need for sleep.

like

I go for a 3 mile run during lunch 2-3 times a week.

Me too 🏃‍♀️

Normalize taking time for your personal needs during the day on a regular basis. Whether that’s a nap, a workout, or a midday episode of Jeopardy while you clip your toenails. It’s not a luxury or a guilty secret to confess. It’s what a healthy workload and life SHOULD look like.

likesmart

YES.

I don’t nap but I regularly sleep until 11

Nap?? I don’t even have time to pause and make myself a snack some days. Where are you all finding this time!?

By working when I get a second wind from 9-midnight.

Nap?! I work in my sleep, all about the grind homie! I won a golden Webbys once and it was such a great feeling, almost better than the birth of my first child.

It’s a joke, obvi… people love to say how busy they are and that’s the most boring thing ever.

Every single day. What’s the point of working in the same building as my bed if I don’t take advantage?

likefunny

Grey use to have a bed to take naps in.

I’ll start. Probably at least 2-3 times for 45mins each week 😅

If I have early AM client meetings and am in meetings after that all morning, then I need a 20m power nap during my lunch. Meetings are so draining for me, esp over video chat. I feel better after the nap (even if I just close my eyes that long) and like I got a mid day restart.

Siestas should be mandatory

likesmart

I absolutely nap, 20-40 minutes a day after lunch. I also go for a 5k run during the day a few times a week. And fold laundry/load the dishwasher. And play video games during town hall meetings. Not a bit of my work has been impacted and if anything I’ve been much more productive and happy and healthy!

Are you me?!? 🙌

Lunch nap 🤚

Agencies in Asia even the network agencies all have allocated nap times after lunch. Blew my mind. 🤯

likesmart

Neh

Never a nap.. but better question is how often do people say let’s jump on a call and I’m in the Starbucks line 🤷‍♀️

likefunny

I’m napping right now.

likefunny

I take a lunch nap and eat lunch while working. Blocked out on my calendar. Even if I don’t actually nap, the mental and ocular break is nice.

Have an offer on the table at a startup that’s $35K more than current big 4 salary for a Senior Manager role. Benefits package is very comparable (401k match, healthcare costs, fringe stipends for WFH). Startup has been around for 5+ years and has secured a solid, 9 figures of investor dollars. Is it worth the move and having to leave my extremely secure “network” and role at a Big 4?

Total newbie. Today the same work that took me 5 hours to complete took 1.5hr for a coworker. I’m keep seeing this pattern on different kinds of work, from research to formatting. And I‘m definitely not a perfectionist.. I don’t know what the issue is and how to be faster. Since we’re remote, its hard to gauge how others are working. Did anyone go through this?

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m not terribly thrilled with the new Halo Top ad. I’m all for body acceptance but part of the reason COVID hit the U.S. so hard is because of co-morbidities like obesity. There has to be a line btw “real” bodies and not celebrating a state that causes so many medical issues - Ie overweight without the medical definition of very obese. Do you think brands have gone too far in the other direction?
