Excellent job OP. I think you nailed it and covered all key categories and brands. I agree with few others that mentioned Rolex is one level too high. It is probably the most popular brand but I agree that JLC is a higher quality of craftsman vs Rolex. Sure Rolex prices / aftermarket value very high but doesnāt mean it belongs where it does. Otherwise thank you for this post!
I love Louis Vuitton for a lot of things, Sunglasses, luggage, even shoes, but Iād never even think about buying an LV watch. Though I think Gucci has gotten a bit, well, Iām not a fan anymore, Iām surprised it was ranked below LV insofar as watches are concerned. Otherwise, learned about some brands I didnāt know existed, so thanks for this!
LVMH uses Swiss movements and has their own in-house movements. I think Gucci mainly has quartz watches and the upper limit is probably Sellita movements.
Had to throw Invicta in there, didnāt you. I WAS VERY YOUNG AND DIDNT KNOW BETTER. Groupon assured me it was good.
Thatās insane! Rolex should def be higher than IWC and Omega, but also agree that JLC should be a notch above Rolex
Pro
My own two penniesā worth: the mid-tier āstyleā bracket is a bunch of garbage and Rolex is way too up, shouldnāt be anywhere near JLC and most certainly not above Omega, Zenith, and IWC.
Other than those two points I agree with everything on there šš

Nice. Iād actually break out Seiko a bit further, but I also understand thatās the whole reason why people find Seiko confusing :)
Iād have put GS in the Rolex tier, Seiko LX and the $1k+ prospex / presage modes in the mid tier, and just Seiko in the bottom tier

I had the pleasure to handle a Credor Eichi II. The movement was not quite on par with my Lange 1, but that dial... definitely deserves to be up there!
Youāll have to pry my TAG Heuer from my cold, dead hands
I see what you did there! Iām a bit better of a skier than that, though the best skiers I know have broken legs (me, just an elbow)! But I like how the band is adjustable and fits over the inner lining of my jackets, and over a wetsuit.

Notes: I had to exclude lots of Micros and "Starter" brands because there are just too many.
WIS = Watch Idiot Savant. Itās a term created on the watch forums and basically means someone whoās familiar and passionate about horology.
Let me know if I missed any of the major brands, or if you think I've misclassified something.
Enjoy!
What is WIS?

Panerai does have a fascinating horological history.
Ralph Lauren's placement shocked me until I looked at their offering. Then I was even more shocked

Yeah, they just released a watch with a JLC movement. Craziness!

Blancpain higher than Omega?! Hard time seeing it...

200x ahead of Omega
Idk if I would necessarily group Cartier in with jeweler watches, even if it technically is
Rolex and Cartier all the way!

The Seiko disrespect smdh
Most folks would agree that JLC (and Rolex) makes better watches than Cartier, Bvlgari, or Chopard. Same tier doesnāt mean equal in all respects

This is pretty awesome. Agree with most of it, but I would argue that the āJewelerā group should be moved down to the mid-tier luxury, Cartier/Chopard...etc canāt be above the likes of IWC, Omega and Zenith.
Bowl Leader
Fair. I see your point. Itās impossible to make this perfect. I do see Cartier and Chopard more as Jewelry though, so thatās why they got the upgrade.
Where is Casio? Needs to be God tier above everything else.

G Shock is hiding on there ;)
Gotta have Jacob & Co in ultra luxury

Good catch; not sure how I missed it. Added, thanks!

I was thinking about a longines hydroconquest but Iām out now after labeling it as a mall brand š. Thatās okay I had thoughts about a Tudor anyways so itās probably for the best
Bowl Leader
I moved Longines over, but Tudor is still the way to go.

Iām sorry, Rolex more luxurious than IWC, Frank Muller, GP, and at the same level as Blancpain and JLC?? Hells no! That order should be reversed. No way Rolex and JLC are in the same league, and that Rolex is in a higher league than say IWC.

To each their own, my good man. There is of course some personal bias here.
I mean, yes, this is an impressively complicated watch from FM, but you literally could not pay me to wear that. Desirability is a factor is all this, as is ādemand at an average price pointā. Rolex PM Daytonas, DDs, and SDs are all pretty popular.
Rolex looks and feel really good on a hand, Patek Phillippe and other ultra expensive brands are not exponentially as good as the price. You are paying to show off, and the companies get rich. Same with LV
When your 22k chronoswiss is labeled an entry level luxury mall brand š„²

Chronoswiss was a tough one to place. I consider them more āOtherā than āMall Brandā. They had some popularity a couple decades ago, but struggle to find footing these days.
