Alright, immigrant here that always found it atrocious to spend more than $35 on a pair of shoes. Well, now that my net worth is over $ 2 million and I make $375k a year, I don’t mind buying one pair of expensive shoes for upto $200 if it will last me at least 3 years. Don’t know where to look. Any recommendations for my budget? Edit: dress shoes, brown leather

I like Echo brand shoes in that price range.

It’s worth researching what fits really really well though. Advice online won’t work for that.

I’d say make it a creative learning activity and set a goal to try on x-number of shoes (maybe 20-50) and don’t purchase until you know your own feet and what shoes fit well.

Mine are particularly short, flat, and wide feet. Very few shoes fit me well unless they have a Wide or Extra Wide option. Olukai’s tend to fit my actual size (8 mens) /without/ the need for Wides. Otherwise, in the past I had to go to 8.5 or even up to 9 to get the width right. I don’t do that anymore. But point is, in my case, unless I’m going for a brand and model I already know, chances are *I will have to* try many shoes at many stores to get a particular need met.

I haven’t bought dress shoes in over six years, bc what I have that fits well is decent quality and of course, I rarely ever need to wear them.

So in any case, if your feet are easily fit by what manufacturers create, then great. Still, either order a bunch online, keep what you like and return the rest, or start becoming knowledgeable in person.

As for people judging for how you post… meh. I don’t know them. And I don’t know you. They don’t know you either.

You can find $200 shoes at Macys/JC Penny, even some basic ones at Nordstrom. $200 is not really considered “expensive”…seems to be more regular price this days. When I think of expensive, I think of Sacks, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Bergdoff, Nordstrom and boutique men shoe stores in nyc. I’d keep the budget to $1,000 and buy a couple pairs in different colors.

Ps I’m an immigrant as well, but it doesn’t stop me from liking high quality items and appreciating high end fashion.

Lessons learned from this thread:

- Good pair of shoes will probably run you at least $200-$250

Edit I make 1/2 your salary and would spend 2x on dress shoes. They last and you get what you pay for. If you commute on foot or plan to walk around a lot in them spend the extra and get your money’s worth

Why do you need help on a $200 decision if you make 375k a year? I have never heard anyone feel the need to tell us their salary when purchasing clothing.

Fellow first generation immigrant here. Considering your tendency to have your foot in your mouth, I wouldn’t recommend buying any new pair at all.
