Breaking Bad is the best television show, bar-none. And agree, it was certainly not about money poured into the show, but rather individual performances that contributed to the greater whole.
Can't imagine they spent too much money on this show...didn't it initially appear on the AMC network before it got picked up by Netflix? Such a fluid and robust show, through and through.
There have been plenty of movies and series that have been extremely successful, despite their smaller budgets. A lot of it has to do with timing, and of course, story line and talent. I also think there's something to be said about taking chances. The less you spend, the less you have to lose.
Well yeah but to be fair Breaking Bad has the biggest budget out of any network tv show at the time iirc. It's still a great show but it's not like they were working with insufficient funds
good example of this is the Game of Thrones series. For season 1, the budget per episode was around 6 million and by the end of its run the budget was all the way up to 15 million per. Kinda interesting how the quality of the show is almost inversely proportional to the size of the budget
Of course, I think some of the most creative productions come from working within constraints. It's like "how do we bring this life given our limitations?" pushes people to put forth the best work possible
Crazy how the Rings of Power team blew nearly 60 million per episode just to come out with such a mediocre, half-baked production
Woah? They really spent that much? I haven't watched it yet but will do soon.
Of course, no amount of money can make up for a lack of artistic direction, mediocre writing, or a poor screenplay.
You just earned yourself the top spot for my to-be-watched list. I've been teetering on whether or not I should watch Breaking Bad because I didn't think it would fit the bill of what I usually go for, but now I'm certainly intrigued. Who doesn't enjoy great production value? What do you like most about it, OP?
Yes! I love Breaking Bad. Great plot, great actors. Also, please check out Better Call Saul. Another masterpiece.
That goes to show how much creativity and actual character development will take a show.
The Wire is one of my favorite show and dare I say one of the greatest show to air on television and there was no big blockbusters theatrics. Just touching and authentic storytelling.
How much was the budget for Breaking Bad? I had no idea they had a significantly smaller budget judging by how it was produced. That is nice to know. Breaking Bad is outstanding!
It would be nice if it worked that way. However, big name actors and lots of promotion get shows noticed. Without the initial attention, your show is a lot less likely to make waves no matter how great it is.
Vince Gilligan is a genius. We all know that. It still is one of the best shows out there. It is great because it's a slow burn but the hype never ceases.
I would not be the person I am if not for this show. That's not an exaggeration because this show really shaped how I view my media and the writing behind shows. It upped my standards to say the least.
Agree. Although budget reall is an important factor. But you also need to invest and find good actors and director.
