Always wanted to adopt a puppy and this time seems perfect as I can be home all day for months to give the puppy the attention it needs in its initial months. I can’t decide on what puppy to get. Live in a hot climate area and own a big house with a decent size backyard. I am wanting to adopt either Labrador, golden retriever, Pomsky husky or a German shepherd. What would be best for a first time dog parent?

I'm not an expert but I think huskies and German Shepherds are harder first time dogs. You can check the American Kennel Club's website though, they have a lot of information on specific breeds and whether they'll be a good fit.

My only caution to you is that your dog is going to get used to you being around all the time. Set up routines from the beginning that will work once you are back to work. Separation anxiety is real!

We got a rescue labeled lab and she’s most likely 0% lab lol. We don’t care, she the best dog in the world, but just be mindful of that if you are set on a breed and go the rescue puppy route (which i highly recommend,
but it’s not for everyone!)

What state are you in and I’ll give you some options? Odds are there’s is a humane rescue alliance by you. Dogs get pregnant. You will find puppies at local shelters.

some breeds like huskies are better for climates that get cold. i have a shepard chow rescue mix and live on the east coast. she’s happy in the fall and winter. spring is good but summer is really rough. they have a harder time regulating temps. i would suggest really looking at dogs that also aren’t as high strung for a first dog and ones that have shorter fur and or do well in your climate if you shave them in the summer. good luck. lots of great options.

From your list, golden is the easiest for first time dog owners. Others are either too stubborn or too hot for hot weather

Are you planning to buy or adopt(rescue)? Many rescues are mixed breed but they can generally guess the dominant or main breed responsible for most of the puppy’s genes. I have adopted three puppies in past 10 years, all large and high energy breed mixes (lab/Newfoundland ; German shepherd/gray wolf ; Collie/German shepherd). With any sporting or working dog they will need to have a “job” to keep busy and on track behavior wise. As long as you have the time and energy to commit to training and routine (daily) structured exercise, not just letting out loose in the yard all day, I think just about any breed can become a well adjusted pup. Out of the breeds you mentioned I might steer away from husky just because they are known to be a little more energetic, but again I’ve seen super well adjusted huskies too. Breed is not the sole determinant of disposition as long as you are involved and engaged as a pup parent! I highly recommend following zakgeorge on insta for initial training, and packleaderdogs on insta for some good dog psychology insights. Good luck!!!

Lab or golden are the best dogs overall. Very intelligent and extremely sweet. Both are high energy so having a decent backyard is a plus. Huskys can be tough and aren’t the brightest. They also aren’t meant for being in hot climates and can overheat pretty easily.

You can have mine.

Are you serious?

Until you get called back to work on site on short notice.

I work in tech on local projects and my company is pretty flexible

We’ve been TTC for 7 months now. I was 10 days late for my period, took a pregnancy test 3 different times in the last week and all negative. Reading online i learned that i could be pregnant and just need the hcg levels to build up for a positive test. But last night, I had the worst cramps and now have light bleeding, and some clots 😭... this whole process is such an emotional rollercoaster.. has anyone else had a similar experience? I think this could be an early termination but not sure.

Neither my husband nor I are good with change and when my husband and I went for the ultrasound he nervously asked "she's too sick to eat anything other than her vitamins and water, is it ok for her and the baby to go without?" Our doctor just smiled and replied "don't worry, baby takes" I don't know why but that was so funny to us. It kind of became our mantra as we navigate and move our life around that "baby takes," its made it feel more Us vs Change rather than Me vs Him. Thought I'd share

We do exercises to help her learn to pull herself up and roll her to the side to teach her how to move from back to sitting. I'm not sure how to help her. Ftm here. Anxiety!!!

In a nut shell, we had baby #1 without trying. Started trying for #2 and over 2 years, I had 4 miscarriages and 2 ectopics. In July, my doc informed me that the only way forward was through IVF. I was tired and confused. I PRAYED! and continued trying. (The rest in the comments.)

I received a job offer for a PM position with a base of $125K and a 10% bonus, fully remote and ok benefits. The parental leave is pretty bad, just FMLA and STD/LTD so the most I’d get is 60% of my salary for 12 weeks. I’ve cancelled most of my interviews except for one where the pay is $135K, 20% bonus, hybrid schedule, good benefits and 16 weeks fully paid parental leave. I’d like to start my family in a year or two - is it better to take the remote gig or the hybrid role with full paid leave?

Has anyone attempted lab “kits”? A small set of materials you send home with a kid to do a lab at home?

Little context: I was an ED student, full time paralegal/clerk throughout my law school experience, and a single mother. Would it benefit me to take a pay cut as a transactional clerk by about $20k to work as a clerk for a year then re-enter firm life? I’m transactional and enjoy that line of work.
