A&M folks: can you please clarify how the following 401k employer contribution questions: (i) do you need to be on for a full fiscal year to be eligible for employer contribution? (ii) does the 5% that A&M contributes get deducted from your bonus, or is it in addition to your bonus?

Not sure what current policy is on (I). On (ii), it’s not in addition to the bonus, the first $x of your bonus go into your 401k, and you get the rest in cash that year. It’s also not 5%, it’s a function of how big your bonus is and your age, and it caps out around $17-18k. Personally, I like it because it’s extra tax deferred retirement contributions.

I think (I) is based on 1000 collected hours within the fiscal year. But I don’t quite remember.

I think this kicks in when you’re going into your first full fiscal year. I love that the firm structures it like this too.

Hi - incoming PE analyst at a top Canadian pension fund here (CPPIB/OTPP/OMERS). I want to eventually move to a more operational PE shop, maybe even in America, but am unsure of my chances. I don’t have any FT IB experience besides one internship at a boutique, which is usually the prerequisite for going into PE. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated!

Does anyone know the rules around withdrawing money from a Roth IRA that were converted from a traditional 401k on an after tax basis (not to be confused with a Roth 401k). I have only been able to find info on withdrawing Roth funds converted from a traditional IRA being subject to the 5 year rule. But this would be different since tax was never deferred on the contributions. Anyone ever do this?

All insurance (not including health) $1200 in set monthly expenses, some small random medical bills & a 23k medical bill when my husband had a heart attack & we had no insurance. I max my hsa & 11% goes to my 401k each check. I have 7k in savings. Where do I start? Idk how to invest or how to even begin building wealth in my situation. Can someone please help me? I'm 48yo. Is there any reason to NOT max out a 401k? I’m 23 and will contribute about $10K this year ($86k salary at ~11.5%). Does it make sense to max it out? I don’t have any large upcoming milestone expenses except maybe going back to school in 2-3 years, but not for certain yet.
