My new employer contributes 15% of my total comp into my 401k without me having to contribute anything. Do you think it’s worth it to also try to max my 401k or use the money to invest in alternate investments?
Hi - incoming PE analyst at a top Canadian pension fund here (CPPIB/OTPP/OMERS). I want to eventually move to a more operational PE shop, maybe even in America, but am unsure of my chances. I don’t have any FT IB experience besides one internship at a boutique, which is usually the prerequisite for going into PE. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated!
Does anyone know the rules around withdrawing money from a Roth IRA that were converted from a traditional 401k on an after tax basis (not to be confused with a Roth 401k). I have only been able to find info on withdrawing Roth funds converted from a traditional IRA being subject to the 5 year rule. But this would be different since tax was never deferred on the contributions. Anyone ever do this?
I save: $1,900 in taxable brokerage, $276 in HSA, and $3,091 in 401k. How much are you saving and how much do you think the avg person is saving not on a FIRE journey?
I'm new to the corporate world. I make 55k per year as an EA. House payment 500/mo. All insurance (not including health) $1200 in set monthly expenses, some small random medical bills & a 23k medical bill when my husband had a heart attack & we had no insurance. I max my hsa & 11% goes to my 401k each check. I have 7k in savings. Where do I start? Idk how to invest or how to even begin building wealth in my situation. Can someone please help me? I'm 48yo. Getting a very late start!
I'm planning to use my 401k to pay for my full-time MBA. Does this qualify as an exception to the 10% penalty? Has anyone done this before. Thanks!

Curious...how many of you would recommend taking a loan from 401k to pay down your mortgage? Is it a good idea or bad and why?
What are the best ways to pay for the 20% down payment for a house? Apart from clawing into all my savings + 401k
Is there any reason to NOT max out a 401k? I’m 23 and will contribute about $10K this year ($86k salary at ~11.5%). Does it make sense to max it out? I don’t have any large upcoming milestone expenses except maybe going back to school in 2-3 years, but not for certain yet.
Can someone help me choose a 2 fund breakdown for my 401k at Fidelity? I see different funds recommended and some people mentioning to use Vanguard funds at Fidelity instead. I’m thinking 90% in a SPY equivalent and 10% in international? I’m 23 so I don’t really want bonds right now.
Has anyone done lifestyles unlimited to get into real estate? How was your experience? Would you close out 401k and take penalty to finance single family rentals? Thanks in advance.

Is the use of “kind of” and “sort of” overused in consulting/public speaking? I have been working with managers who use this terminology all of the time and it’s rubbing off on me. Precision is lost.
