Rest on the weekends and figure out how you can progress in your current role instead of trying to make a side hustle …
Cool cool to know that I’m basically making the same amount as you did in 1999 at the same age in big 4. With 40k debt combined over 100k with my spouse. He makes 40k and we can’t even think about buying a house. Much less one for 200k or under. I came to this post also thinking about a side hustle because like others have stated inflation, taxes, SS, Medicare, 401k, my own healthcare, student loans, and legit just groceries are killing us! So, back to the OP’s point… some of us are looking for side hustles so we can start our lives and buy a house at $0 vs a -100k.

You need to get the job approved by independence. Generally as long as you: - do not compete with the firm - do not create a conflict of interest - do not interfere with your ability to do your day job - do not do something that conflicts with the firm’s values You’re fine
No, at least not at P dubs
I wouldn’t even say anything or get “approval”. Might get judged for it. You do you in your free time as long as it isn’t interfering with your job and not in competition etc.
Chief
Wrong answer. Not disclosing is a fireable offense. And besides anyone who would judge you for it is not anyone who is in a position to aid your career— a jerk of a peer, maybe. Most anyone who has lived past 30 can tell you it is hard to make adult friendships or have a hobby. I know a ton of people who took retail jobs just to meet people in their new city, sell running shoes they knew a ton about, teach a fitness class to stay healthy, teach a night class at a local college… you name it.
I thought people at b4 worked 18 hrs. How do you plan on spending time doing something else?
Chief
No, typically you just have to get it approved.
My b4 will allow part-time jobs as long as it’s not related to the b4 role and approved. Things like being a spinning instructor or working in a family business are easily approved.
KPMG doesn’t allow it, even if it’s an independent contractor role like driving for Uber on the side
I had a side hustle at PwC. You just need to get your partner to sign off on it or at least give them/HR a heads up
No. Many people did this at my firm back in the day. Its definitely not ideal as you are not mentally as focused as your peers
Just out of curiosity- what side gig would you do?
maybe retail with my friends from high school again. great mall discounts too
