Am I being uptight or is it rude when your interviewer eats her lunch during the phone interview?

A third party recruiter who was looking to forward my portfolio asked me about how much my current salary is. I remember reading somewhere saying that’s not allowed to be asked during an interview. Is it different when it’s a third party recruiter and it’s not an “official interview”? Assuming it shouldn’t have been asked, how should I have answered without coming across as impolite? 🤔

I'm interviewing with a company for the Seattle area and moving from a lower cost of living area. Glassdoor is guessing around $120,000 which seems high to me when one of my friends in the area is making $84,000 (same field and experience)

I have a client that is terrible. Their whole company is in flux, massive scope creep & one of the people at the company is highly verbally abusive.

But it’s also a retainer that is stable & pays well (and im not sure if I can backfill them easily right now between all of the tech layoffs & the upcoming holidays).
