Am I crazy for wanting to move to NYC right now? Feel like I'm going through a quarter life crisis. I know living in NYC is expensive, but I'm wondering if it's manageable for entry/junior level?

It is, but you’ll have to have a 2-3 roommates and watch your spending, unless you have parental assistance. It depends on how you want to live. Nyc is amazing, but it also very expensive and money seems to just disappear. But can find deals if you search around. If you’re young, go for it. Just don’t expect to live high on the hog.

Agreed. It’s actually possible to make more money as an AC or AAE than AM because you no longer qualify for overtime upon promotion.

I moved to NYC at 24. I didn’t even visit first. If you want to do it, do it. Be resourceful and you’ll be fine.

Life’s too short for what if’s. Definitely worth the experience though there’ll def be sacrifices and challenges

Lived in NYC during college with zero help from my family. You can definitely do it! You just have to be very strategic with your $$

Can’t say I have an interest in moving to NYC, but I am with you on the quarter life crisis 😂 feeling the urge to do some sort of big shift.

Do things in the right time. Move there 1) When you can actually afford it. Your older, financially secure self will thank yourself later. 2) When there’s not a raging, deadly pandemic threatening to return at any moment. Remember: Sex and the City is just a movie. Sacrifice and fully fund a Roth and get the match in your 401(k). That’s what real ballers do.

Moved there at 25 in 2006. Landed a “garden level” (read: basement) apartment with two roommates that was as much in rent as a one-bedroom in my former city. Didn’t have much spending money. Subway sucks. Best decision I ever made! The neighborhood turned out to be a magic place (Astoria), I got incredible professional experience and there’s no place like NY. Do it.

I don’t think so. I’ve been thinking the same thing. I have some friends who went directly there after college and followed the advice of everyone above. They love it!

^Yup. Totally doable. I lived here off of $15/hour with no outside help (thinking about it now, it seems crazy). Lived in Bedstuy with $900 rent (two roommates). Once I was promoted, I moved closer to the city. Absolutely worth it, I made the most of my time in both situations.

NYC won't be the same for a while. Happy to have left, but will miss it.

Not crazy at all!

I think if you have NYC in your heart, that desire will never go away. Go for it. Most everyone is scared shirtless and wishes they had more money when they make the move.

Maybe plan to wait until early next year to move to see how things pan out in NYC and nationwide. If your dream is to live there, do it while youre young. NYC is a brutal place to live and the older you get the harder it will be to suffer through all the inconveniences (subways, EVERYTHING is expensive, walking everywhere etc.), especially if you are from the suburbs, or are not used to city living. Definitely do not wait until youre much older. Best of luck!

Thoughts on LifeSci public Relations?

Does anyone know LinkedIn’s AOR?

I’ve spent my career on the internal/exec comms side of the house and am looking for a director role. I am getting some interest from recruiters, but the the roles seem to be focused on media relations. Is that typical?? I’ve managed external comms but it’s not my expertise. The roles do come with a broader comms team, so if I were to get one then it’s not like I would be on my own. Am I being insecure about not being experienced enough in media relations or is it ok?
