Diagnosed with ADHD at 40. Tried Vyvanse for a couple of months. It works in terms of depriving grogginess, afternoon post meal crash, and suppressing appetite (at times).
However, I still needed help planning/prioritizing my day, listening and active note taking, and keeping myself accountable. So decided to replace meds with coffee. Also, the fact that most people on meds had to progressively increase their medication over time did not sit well with me. (cont'd)
Just based on the pictures - you might be underestimating the total calories. I’d recommend trying a food scale to get more precise.
Very good advice. Always weigh your food.
Looks like you’re eating fairly healthy foods! If you’re trying to lose fat, I would say start with losing the avocado toast! Although healthier fats, still high in fat. I think your calorie count is fine but depends on how much you’re exercising!
Got it, thank you! I also put butter on my fish when I cook them so I’ll get rid of that as well :) only exercise I am doing atm is 5000 steps per day...
Weight training is key to losing fat and transforming your body

You can always learn on your own, get some weights. Some things like squatting with a weight is easy. You can take virtual classes at Liftonic.com, and follow along. Or sign up with Peloton, $13 a month and follow their programs (yes they have more programs than just cycle).
So I'm 5'2", and lost 20 pounds 2 years ago. Remember that it's all calories, you can eat a clean diet but if you're eating as much/more than you burn, you won't lose weight. Try using a TDEE calculator to get an estimate. I know I only burn about 1300-1400 calories in days I don't exercise, so if I ate your diet I'd gain weight.
I'd also start counting calories, and get a food scale to be more precise. Some healthy foods are super calorie dense avocado, just, etc.), so you might maintain/gain weight despite clean eating.
Everyone’s metabolism is different, but I don’t know anyone who could survive off only eating 1000 calories per day. I would use a TDEE calculator as suggested to try and get an estimate of how many calories you need for your specific activity level each day :) Sometimes eating too little can slow your metabolism and have the opposite effect of what you want. Also, drink lots of water!
I’m around your height and lost about 40 pounds at 1500 or so calories. Strength training helped a lot since you burn more calories with more muscle. Also, I found that if I eat too little, I tend to binge, so eating a moderate deficit and taking things slowly helped me a lot!
Thank you! 🙏🏻 current diet seems maintainable, I’ll see if I can make some adjustments to bring down the calories.. like getting rid of avocado 😬
I think you may be underestimating the calories. Enter the foods into my fitness pal (you can enter the recipe and you will get a calories estimate) so you have a better idea. I was shocked out how many calories i was actually consuming.
For dinner - I always fill half my plate with veggies.
I actually started losing more weight when I ate frozen meals from Trader Joe’s. Costco also has these grilled chicken sandwiches that are only have 160 calories. I usually eat that for lunch with a protein 20 water.
Decent amount of protein I’m assuming? It’s a total of 31g of protein
Itit's a mix of quantity and quality although just by looking, it seems like the foods are pretty "clean"
Do push-ups, sit-ups, leg raises between calls.. you’ll start to gain more muscle in areas you might not of had as much before. Muscle burns more calories in the body. As you start to transition the physiology of your body, your healthy eating habits will benefit your recovery. Listen to your body and not your brain (funny I know). But during hard days you burn glucose and your brain is a major contributor.. it sends signals to load up on things that convert easily (simple sugars). Drink LOTS of water. Our bodies retain more water when we are dehydrated and it makes you not only bloat but feel lethargic..so we often end up eating more food to act as a brain stimulant.
Your foods look fine. If you're not losing weight, cut back on calorie dense foods like the avocado toast and noodles or replace it with a lighter alternative (I like mashing in green peas with my avocados and using lighter bread).
Consider upping your protein and fiber intake and spreading it out over the day. It'll keep you more satiated if you're struggling with hunger.
Also, don't ignore things like sauces and dressings and oils used in food prep. Those make up a huge chunk of hidden calories.
FYI I'm male, 5'5" and 135lbs. I lift weights though and find maintain at about 2000-2200 calories.
For exercise, I am starting with doing 5000 steps per day. Very much prefer cardio to weight lifting (have never really done weights before too)
Too many carbs. Try keto or carnivore, along with intermittent fasting. The Linda will melt off, you’ll feel full, snd no need to count calories. Best of luck!
Disagree. Keto and carnivore only work because of calorie deficit.
I limit my calorie count to 1200 per day and many a times it’s lower but brisk walking for 3 miles, 1 hour of tennis singles and 30 minutes for self weight exercises has made me lose more than 10 lbs in a month.
Based on on the pictures, that looks like way more than 1600 calories
Eat lots of melons, cantaloupe, strawberry, cherry, raspberries and any other berries body needs more energy to digest these as compared to the calories you consume
I agree that doesn’t look like 1400 to 1600. Get the Ozeri ZK14-S scale on Amazon. It’s 14 dollars, extremely accurate, and an amazon’s choice featured product
