Am I ever going to get past the self doubt mode? I feel like every time I speak or do anything, I just sit and think about whether I should have said or done it. I get worried I am wrong or overstepped. I am constantly worried I will get fired for being incompetent. Gah, I wish I could just trust in myself.

You can get past self doubt mode. You have to change your train of thought.

Going to therapy has helped me tremendously.

Therapy really helped me tone down these types of thoughts. I still get them, but it’s much better (and I’m much less anxious) than before

Well, I’m out of advertising. After getting laid off on April 30th I held out in hopes I’d find something “cool” and be able to continue dressing like a clown for work (I’m heavily tattooed and have my septum pierced). I took a job as an EA in real estate investment banking and while I do feel relieved to not have to keep up the “cool” agency culture, I’m a little nervous to return to buttoned up corporate America. I know I’m good at my job, but unemployment Swiss cheese brain is real!

After being laid off for like the 4th time in the last 10 years, I’m ready to go full time freelance and work for myself. Are there any resources out there for non-creatives on this journey? My background is strategy, analytics & general brand. I can also do media planning/buying for smaller clients.

Interested to know others’ thoughts: would you consider the actuarial profession to be recession proof? Do you think there are some tracks that are more protected than others? From where I sit, it’s hard to imagine a layoff of actuaries in my group (health consulting); we have more work than we can handle and are still actively recruiting.

Any news on layoffs/recession in banking industry?

I got laid off in January and have been trying to find a new job since. I keep making it to the phone interview and sometimes a second interview, but always get ghosted. It’s so disheartening.

I have too much experience for an internship, and I have too little to be the top choice for copywriter roles. I know I’m a good writer, I know what I’m capable of, but it’s so exhausting trying to convince people. They always like my book but it’s never enough to get the gig. What can I do?

So what’s the protocol on being harassed by a former employee - one that reported to you but that the company on the whole fired. For harassment, no less. This guy just can’t let it go after YEARS.

Anyone else feel like if they got laid off their career would come to an unceremonious end and they'd be homeless within a month? No...just me? Cool. 😪

I’m currently a tax accountant with 5 YOE. I want to move into a business analyst role I’ve applied for entry level positions (competition is wild) and willing to get certs. I have great hard and soft skills that should transfer pretty well. Any advice on getting the ball rolling? Should I get a mentor? I’ve seen a lot of layoffs too which kind of makes me wonder if it’s worth it.

Wow! What a day! What type of company starts layoffs right before the holidays? Lost my job this morning and I am stressed out. Is there any chance of finding a new job before the holidays? I'm doubting it.

The week of my wedding, my husband (PL SQL Developer 4 yoe) was laid off. That was a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I'm still bringing money in as a software engineer, but I'm looking for advice on how to support a partner who has been laid off. Ultimately I think we will be ok, but I know he's hurting / stressed / and could use a supportive partner.

Currently I work for a mid-sized InsureTech that’s had 2 rounds of layoffs in the past 6 months. Salary is 100k, with no defined bonus. I have close to 4 years of PO experience. I am debating whether I want to leave since my boss is very chill and I have amazing WLB. Benefits are eh. 15 PTO days and healthcare premiums are okay. Should I jump ship? What could I be making at a bigger company? What types of companies are most stable right now?

Is it a red flag as a candidate to ask if a company offers maternity leave? I was recently laid off, so I wasn't expecting to lose my job. We're planning on trying for a baby in the next year or so, so it's really important to me that my next job offers paid maternity leave.

The issue is that it's so rarely advertised on company web sites, but ultimately better maternity leave would sway my decision for a job. Is there a way to ask this tactfully? Or without raising red flags?

Personally, I like posts like this one a lot because:
- it forces companies to admit, you were never out to “hire the best”
- long-term loyalty to a company is completely overrated

How should I navigate this and assess it from an unbiased perspective. Thx!
