1) Accenture - Level 9 position (lead) - 18.5L fixed and 4L variable, 2L Joining Bonus.
2) Societe Generale - specialist pos, 17.5 fixed and rest variable
3) KPMG India, - Asst.Manager - 17.5 fixed, 2L Joining Bonus.
4) If Infosys offers 17.10L ( including variable)
Should I stay back?

Any NYC big law firms heard anything about target hours being prorated this year? My firm has 2K target that was cut to 1800 in 2020 for Covid. So far no word on whether it will happen again, given that we’re still remote and challenges WFH (especially for associate parents) are still the same.

Have a Director of Benefits interview tomorrow. They are a start up and went from 100 employees to about 4000. I'll have to create processes, implementation, file 5500, track loans, etc..

Just had my mammogram and a follow up consult with a breast surgeon, and he told me the fertility treatments and the hormones have done a number on my breasts. Because of it, we need to increase the frequency of the mammograms to keep things closely monitored. I had no idea that’s a side effect of IVF, but apparently it is. :-( Just a reminder for you ladies not to skip the breast exams.

My friend is a 4th year public defender in NYC. T14 grad and easily one of the smartest, most capable attorneys and professionals I know. She finally hit the limit and is looking to pivot out of PD work when she moves to Oregon next year. Does anyone have any experience seeing this PD - private practice transition happen? She’s open to basically anything in the litigation space so long as it pays better. I assume biglaw is off the table given the market, but know she would thrive. Any advice?

Am I about to get laid off? I received a calendar invite titled “Your Professional Development Meeting,” and it’s a meeting with me and two partners. I’m at a top 20 firm. The meeting description says: “The objective of this meeting is to have candid, open conservations and develop concrete next steps for professional development. Just found out this morning at 8am that my wife is now delivering our babies on Monday at 34 weeks. The partners were aware it could be sooner but I’m now left with two days to get my matters covered and a plan for the weeks ahead. I want to give my wife and sons my undivided attention but the partners are good to me and I don’t want to neglect my teams/clients either. How did you handle work during your paternity leave?

How do associates and non-named partners obtain (plaintiff) personal injury cases? Do you advertise yourself, create a brand, all word of mouth through your network and family and friends, or something else? I get a great 40% of fees I bring in, but so far have only been able to bring in one minor MVA case (guy I went to high school with). I have been practicing for 1.5 years for reference. I've been using the free version of Casetext for a few years. It's fast, basic, and I like it. Unfortunately, they have gone subscription only. The firm has (and I dislike) Westlaw. Any good alternatives to Casetext that provide for lightweight, fast case resources?

My firm has always had weekly meetings, and they are now held on zoom since we started working from home. Is it terrible to have my video off? I’m a junior, and I think it probably looks good to have it on, but it is the last thing I want to do at 8am on Mondays.

Interested in transitioning from dirt law/developer work to setting up real estate syndications/real estate funds. Really enjoy the structuring side, not sure why.

To more senior litigators/trial attorneys, does litigation get easier?

I’m a third year, and am told I do a good job. Backing that up, I’ve gotten a lot of “good” opportunities early on to take/defend depositions, be the client contact, handle drafting dispositive motions + hearings (even hearings completely on my own for the motion/response I drafted).

People in my office will say these things are fun, that I must be enjoying it. But I don’t enjoy it and I want to puke most of the time.

Kind of rocked at the news of Cheslie Kryst’s passing from an apparent suicide. Although we don’t know what exactly was the last straw for her, I can’t help but wonder if the demands of her lawyer job (on top of her many others of course) were too much. Sometimes I feel so disillusioned by this profession and it’s all consuming. I hope you all are taking care of yourselves and realizing you are much more to this world than what you do for a living. What’s an expected raise for a second year associate at a mid level firm?

First year review: I have to become a better legal writer/ writer in general. Writing was never a strong suit and this has to change.
