Am I the only one who doesn’t color code their calendar? It’s just yet another step to do and tbh I don’t see value in it other than perhaps it might just make you feel more organized to see things in color.

When you have 18 to 22 meetings in a day for multiple client's you will start seeing the value of color-coding.

D1 speaks truth. Mine is not as awful (usually 10-12) but my lead and the biz dev exec often schedule in 15 min slots, 10-12 hrs a day

Completely agree. Most people I know don’t color code their calendar.

Too many work streams going on. Color coding provides a quick glance to let you know where you are going for simple framing.

I just color code internal vs client calls vs mandatory training. It’s easier for me to quickly see what my day looks like especially when they’re a series it will auto-color the series for you

I prefer to colour code as it helps with scheduling conflicts. If it’s a client meeting coming in at the place of an internal meeting or an internal 1-1 at the time of a global townhall, having different colours just makes it easier to manage those.

I also give my teams full visibility to my calendars, so the colour coding also helps them know which meetings are flexible in my calendar.

I don't keep up with it a lot of times during the year, but in particularly intense stretches it helps to be able to prioritize my calendar or quickly see exactly when my critical meetings are.

I just distinguish between client and internal so I know where to put my priority on

I do a simple color coding with 6 color codes--team meetings, 1:1s, client meetings, personal, untouchable work, and training. That way I can see what my day looks like at a quick glance and it also helps me quickly figure out if I can reschedule something if needed.

My team meetings and untouchable work blocks are almost all just recurring meetings, so I color code them once and don't have to touch them after that. Same with about 60% of my client meetings and my 1:1s. Training and personal are ad hoc, but those are generally a very low lift since they're pretty infrequent. I don't color code interviews and anything admin/HR related, since those are 100% ad hoc.

For no more than 5 minutes per week, it sure makes my calendar much easier to use, so I see no downsides to color coding my calendar.

I use a few colors: different clients have their own colors, then internal/extra curricular, then personal

Similar method to this, where I only color code a few types. Purple is for training or cpe bearing events (so I'm not tempted to skip them), red is for important deadlines like independence or feedback due dates (if missed, will be SOL), blue used to be for my travel vs. remote 😭, and I pick a random color for the literally 8 recurring weekly meetings for my current project just so I can see the craziness.

Everything else like town halls,1x1s, random meetings don't get a color.

There’s a thing called rules in outlook that does it automatically

Love color coding.. can glance at a whole week on <5 min and know what I’m getting into...

Should I renege offer from MBB?

An MBA recent grad. I signed with MBB last year. However, I have always wanted to do tech PM. I couldn’t find PM job in Fall and just signed MBB offer I have. I recently got an FAANG offer. It’s PM function, hard to break in with consulting experience. I declined the new offer during interview stage and again after they gave me initial offer, but it is coming back with 80k more in annual compensation. It made me so torn!! Should I renege MBB offer?

I’m a business analyst and I recently learned sql. I found it to be quite interesting. It’s making me want to transition into a more technical role, which is something I’ve always been interested in but never knew which area to focus on. I’m thinking of enrolling into a bootcamp or something similar and hopefully getting into more of data analyst roles. Any programs or boot camps you recommend? I was also considering a part time masters but not sure I can commit with how many hours I work.
