Am I the only one who is only doing federal consulting bc family circumstances keep me from being on the road every week? I don’t think most of my clients should even exist but what can ya do?

This, exactly. I don't love the work, I certainly don't think what I'm doing is helping the overall picture of the federal government (they're hemorrhaging financially, so I'm actually making it worse), and as a younger female it's probably one of the worst places to work in regards to respect and trust from clients. That being said, I'm home every day before 5 and get to hang out with my kids and animals. So... I'll do this for a little while longer, build up my skills, and hopefully switch to projects/content more built around my morals and values.

Very true. I'm grateful I'm out of DC, however I'm not far away and in another huge military/industrial area. I don't want to say good bye to my salary, but I have no idea what else I could do. I'd love to focus more on environmental issues, but... We'll see. I'll keep selling my soul for a few more years. My kids are about half way through their childhood, so I can make more selfish decisions once they're on their own.

Spouse is a state department employee and currently overseas. I’m a manager with three years of experience in consulting and 8 years of experience in the military where I left as a O-3 (GS-12 equivalent). SO wants me to take a non-negotiable family member hire role at the embassy overseas for one year so we can co-locate. Job sounds interesting, but is a non-negotiable GS-6 equivalent. Family life would be great but am I derailing my career permanently? Can I explain this in the future?

Hello all, need some advice. Am currently working for a government consulting agency, but wishing to leave due to the way the project is being managed...I am in at least 4-5 hours of meetings a day, so barely have time to prepare for demos, preparation of slides for the client, nevermind being able to write decent stories(tickets)... Usually have to rush writing requirements, steps, etc, ...
So I have been looking around.
