You are not responsible for the happiness of other people. (I just saved you years of therapy)

likefunnyhelpful

Maybe not their happiness but their general well being? I feel like it is my role to take care of them.

And feel like I should always be somewhere else. Some days I feel like anytime spent thinking about this is a waste but other times it just consumes me. I’m a happy person and like the life I have but I feel like I’m just in the wrong place. Has anyone ever felt this way? Am I too old to make drastic life changes? When I tell people what I want to do they look at me like I have three heads. “Why would you want to leave this home? And your family” it’s not that I want to leave my family. They are the only reason I’m still here in the first place. It’s that I feel called elsewhere. But feel guilty for going. Could really use some different perspectives here.

You’re definitely not too old to make a fresh start. 32 is freaking young! (I’m 32 btw.) I’ve moved around several times to places where I knew no one and have established myself each time. I think it’s extremely healthy to try living somewhere new, even if you end up going back home. I have friends who have never left our town/county and it’s unfathomable to me.

Fair enough!

I had similar thoughts running through my head recently - picked up and drove across the country for a month while working remote. I’m now picking up and moving across to said beach town in December. Go with your gut

Hell to the no - go on a solo trip and you’ll find plenty of other fellow travelers that are doing things on their own terms. Don’t get caught up in the life around you - there are more ways to live than you can count - however, it sounds a bit like you might be running away from something, and there is a reason why you have stayed there (family is important - I’ve done the same) so maybe start slow and see how you feel

Consultant 1: I could rent my home but the uncertainty of it staying rented while I’m gone scares me since I wouldn’t be able to afford rent somewhere new and pay for my home. Plus Then I’d still be responsible for repairs and things. Which would eat away at that income over time.

Sounds as if you need to watch the Gary V. library of motivational talks.

Thank you! I will look him up!

If you felt you had to be elsewhere, why did you buy a home that would eventually tie you down and become a liability to the life you really want to live? Something to think about. It does feel like you are not truly sure about wanting that happiness from going away in-spite of how you feel about staying. So you are looking for reasons that will force you to stay. Money is just money at the end of the day. You can always make more if you lose it. But time’s never coming bk. 5 yrs down the line, if you looked bk on today, what would you remember about how you felt?

I have thought about that actually. Looking into my mind for why I bought a house. So that was for multiple reasons 1) was in a really bad roommate situation I needed to get out of; 2) it seemed like the next step in the progression of life; 3) knew I wanted to move to a beach town but I didn’t have a job at the time that allowed me to do so; 4) I hadn’t ever been in lockdown where I couldn’t go anywhere or see other humans haha. Covid was my wake up call that I need to get busy living or get busy dying.

32 is old?

Haha in the sense of risking my net worth to do this haha
