Sorrento is very much underrated but it is really good! you can stay in Sorrento which will be much cheaper compared to other places take a bus and see the views or checkout beaches/restaurants.
We stayed near by the train station and sita bus stop. I don't remember the hotel name but Check out Porta Marina restaurant. It was really good. Their card reader didn't work and we didn't have euros in hand to pay on our dinner date, they let us go and asked us to pay the next day! they were very sweet!!
I booked a 4 star hotel for 2 nights in Positano for ~80k UR points through the Chase portal. Free continental breakfast and balcony view of the beach and the entire coast. Totally worth it for me as it provided shuttle service to one of the best restaurants at the top of the city and also close enough to where we didn’t have to walk down millions of steps to get to the beach. My hotel was right below Cafe Positano. Can look it up later if you’re interested.
Airbnb is fine too - I have friends who have done Airbnb and had a blast. Most times you just have to venture a little further downhill from the Airbnb but if you’re going with people that can climb stairs or walk on an incline easily, shouldn’t be a problem.
I’ve only been to Positano but have friends that have gone to Capri and Sorrento - both beautiful. Positano is definitely the most expensive both in terms of restaurants and hotel/Airbnb just bc it’s a destination zone but I always recommend. Also recommend renting a few beach loungers out on the beach for the day (I believe it’s €20/chair for a full day) - well worth it.
Sorrento is a bit cheaper but more people, more options for food/attractions, and is closer to Naples. Great place from what I hear.
Capri is a short boat ride but heard amazing things. My mom recently went on a day trip and said it’s perfect for a quick day trip.
Positano is just high class and amazing. Pricey but worth it IMO. The views are priceless and you really do feel at peace during the nighttime. I live in SF so it was a great getaway from a busy city life. Lounged on the balcony at night looking at the city lights next to the beach, lighthouses, and boat horns. Awesome
Stayed at Hotel Scapolatiello - it was ok since we were there only for 2 days. It has free breakfast and breakfast is really good. You need a car since it is on a slope.
Positano and Capri were my favorites last fall. La sirenuse in positano is heaven on earth, just need to be willing to pay through the nose for the experience. On Capri we did an Airbnb - it was fine but wouldn’t recommend the specific one we stayed at. Key advice for Capri is make sure your hotel is located at the top of the island - our Airbnb was halfway up the slope and it was impossible to walk to dinner without breaking a heavy sweat.
Stayed in Priano. The hotel had a beach view and a view of positano on the hill. I felt it was the best option since it wasn't super expensive as Positano hotels, and yet a 10 min bus ride to Positano.
Priano is a small village between Amalfi and Positano, so works out best
