They need competent project managers and an MBA is currently best proxy for likely competence post education.

You guys, AWS is in digital consulting now, does no one stay current?? Their roles literally says (consultant, engagement manager, etc). They are creeping into Accenture territory.

I realise MBB hire as many, but they also contract them out, so they’re spread across multiple industries and thousands of companies. What in the world is Amazon doing with that many MBAs? Unless everyone and anyone (accounting, business ops, finance, etc) are required to have an MBA.

Similar to McKinsey they have an up-or-out structure, so many will leave after a relatively short time and find other great opportunities

Yes they do, they grind you until you decide to leave or stay and move up. Addressed in another answer on here

A lot of the MBAs go into roles which are not typical ‘post MBA’ roles such as operations roles at their warehouses. Amazon has the money so they want to attract the best and the brightest in all roles.

They plan to keep hiring at this pace until they perfect growing them in labs, which is apparently only a year or two away

People are joking about it but all these tech companies already started their own consulting teams years ago and since everything runs now on technology they have the competitive advantage and the money, I believe major traditional consulting players are at risk, how long is going to take? That’s the question.
