I’m depressed, anxious, unmotivated, uninterested, easily frustrated, dead inside, etc. i pretend to be the opposite of me during interview and got the job. I’m starting the new job soon, do I continue faking it? I usually work with people who needs you to be nice and warm and involved and conversational and I force myself to be that and got burned out every day and I would hate faking again in new job..
The below sounds totally scatterbrained but I hope it helps!
**LPs- use work-related example for each leadership principle. understand the specific principles that apply to the job as they’ll definitely ask about those.
**Practice the STAR method and use data driven examples. They’re going to ask you what drove every decision you made, the result, and sometimes what you’d do differently. They’ll also ask you about times you failed or made an unpopular decision.
**check out your interviewers on LinkedIn in private mode (Learn & Be Curious) good to know their background for questions. FYI- this helped me figure out who the Bar Raiser was during my interviews :)
The Loop is mentally draining. Practice your examples in the mirror and with a friend. Always remember to use data driven examples!!! Amazon wants to hear specifics.
Will check out Dan Croiter’s video on YT this weekend.
If you’re specifically asking with the thought of this being a virtual interview:
1. Ensure you have a great Internet connection wherever you sit.
2. Dress for success. As much as they say the dress code is casual, you may want to look formal and presentable. Not suggesting to wear a coat, but just something presentable.
3. Have two glasses of water with you.
4. Have a paper and pen with you.
5. Practice your examples well. Think through those and try to come up with any details that can push you on the other side of line.
6. If it helps, look directly in your camera if you are not comfortable/ forget answers seeing the interviewer’s face.
7. Quiet atmosphere, well-ventilated room, and headphones are preferred.
8. You can take a break of 2 min in-between the interviews. Take deep breaths.
If you are looking for clues on preparation:
1. Ask your recruiter what LPs should you focus on. They usually share those. Prepare 2 examples of each. Use STAR method to write examples and then read them aloud to edit and present the example well. Add metrics to your examples. Read them aloud to practice.
2. Depending upon how much time you have before the interview, you may want to watch Holly Lee’s and Dan Croiter’s videos on YouTube.
3. As mentioned above, the loop is draining, water helps!
4. Think of it as a conversation and you should be able to ace it. Its not that bad.
