AmLaw 100: We won’t know about bonuses until a month or two into 2021, and same with pay raises. What’s certain, however, is if we receive a bonus, it will essentially be a pay restoration as we are still on a paycut through the end of the year. Also, it’s not guaranteed that people get a bonus, so many associates will have made $20K less (at a minimum) in 2020 than what they went in expecting.

AmLaw 100 and we’re not getting any raises on our normal schedule. Have been told it will be revisited in the spring. I’d love a 3% bump lol

Oof. This makes me feel slightly better that my situation isn’t completely unreasonable, but I am sorry that your firm is doing that.

7.8% raise, last year my raise was 14.8%

Not bad!

Op, respectfully, how do you feel about the outcome for you, considering in the context of all that is happening in the world right now?

Thanks for these thoughtful replies! You are totally right.

I’m assuming you all are at non-lockstep firms? I thought that was fairly rare in the amlaw 100.

That’s kind of messed up. My firm is pure lockstep, but I have worked at a firm before that does it differently. It feels shady to me for firms to pull in associates on the premise of paying market, but then precede to not do so.

I missed my hours by a lot and got a 3% raise. Amlaw100.

Dumb question, but how do you actually give notice to your firm when lateraling away? Do you email hr, or just tell the partners you work with and assume they'll raise it with the necessary people? Also, is a phone call/email too informal and should I be attempting to try and catch people in person? Thanks in advance. First time lateraling out so not sure on the logistics.

Would you leave a big 4 to go to smaller company? This is in consulting. At current company on partner track but could be 5-7 years and at smaller company ($1b rev) it would be 1-2 years. Partner comp is similar (top Partner obviously make alot more at big4). 75% raise. Lobe my current company and team. Nervous company is too small and staff may be lesser skilled. Would you move? Nothing is guaranteed of course on Partner track. Would you only leave if it's Partner role not just MD?

Trying to understand what is the hype around emails for mid-year market correction. It is is just eligibility email. Criteria has been well defined and communicated by leadership. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t everyone who meets DOJ cut-off and is not in PIP will receive the raise? Everyone needs to relax a bit IMO.
