I want to make sure I understand: you are currently in a client-facing consulting role and are looking to transfer to an admin job?
I assume you are done with consulting, right? (Nothing wrong with that, just want to confirm)
Thank you! Yeah these are all the types of things I’m trying to target. I have a plied to essentially every role that falls with in this round but unfortunately I get auto rejected rather quickly especially because of not having the exact background. I’ve been trying to leverage referrals which have seem to prove to be the most effective at this point
In terms of what exactly. Like will your exit options be the same? No. Will your pay be the same? No. Will your network be the same? No. Will we have the same company name in our email address? Yes.
Well there’s a difference between the “back office” roles. There’s the support team which is like the core business services (HR, recruiting, finance). Then there are administrative/executive assistants. Then there are support functions that function more like “middle office” (research team, practice area management teams”. I think you’d be looking more at core business services or middle office than being like, someone’s assistant...right?
Lol, no. Admins at BCG are looked down upon by the uppity folks on the consulting side. I would stay away...
Also I have never done any type of EA or a job as I have only been a client facing consultant before so it would be new to me but I figure if I can do client facing consulting that I should be able to do AAA. I guess there would be only one way to find out..
No - not the same at all. There is some prestige associated to it, but literally nothing else is the same. (Saying this as a former admin).
OP - Sure you can DM me - happy to talk through my experience.
Not sure how serious this question is. I would not underestimate the upside which is full benefit participation - healthcare, office / snacks, CoL raises, etc. will it be the same as consulting track no, but still good upside
Serious question and being seriously considered. I’m done with travel. Seeking WLB, and have the consulting background, so seems like a realistic transition if given the opportunity
My admin is essential to my ability to do my job and still enjoy life. I definitely don’t look down on them, nor do most people here.
That said, it is an assistant job. Sometimes you can carve out a client management role from the perspective of taking major client events and meetings, but you’re definitely not doing the heavy thinking and same type of analysis.
Also to be fair, I’m not sure any of us knows what OPs role is. “Senior consulting” could mean a lot of things. If you’re doing staff aug for very little pay on a Monday to Friday travel schedule with a degree from a less than ideal school at a small firm then an MBB admin exit might not be so bad.
Thanks yeah I just got to a point where I was heading down the road of depression that I was not willing to let run my life anymore. So I am trying to find something that will pay the bills comfortably without sacrificing my quality of life. Really don’t care what it is that I do honestly and have no problem being in a support function
Will being a janitor at MIT be the same as getting a PhD there?
HAHAHAHHA
Better to do some other BST job if you have that much experience
It is still a job at an MBB and a very important role that is essential to partners, but it is still an assistant job and not a consulting job. May end up being a step back, or if treated right, could be a foot in the door, but you would really have to work it right.
Yeah - I would assume so, but maybe it could a springboard into the more operations/organizational side of the house? Definitely ask more about the career path
If you mean Executive Admin that’s not as dismissed as just an admin. That being said, at the right company they are well-paid and appreciated. I would look at a smaller company or different industry than consulting to compare vibe etc.
