Analysts (current and past) what does/did your responsibilities include at a media agency as an analytics analyst? For example (pulling reports, POVs).

Also, how long were you an analyst? Thanks!

One IMPORTANT CRITICAL thing I forgot to mention, always ask questions and be inquisitive to why. It is the only way to learn and gain a wider perspective. This never ends regardless of your title. You will probably do it less often as your responsibilities and focus shifts as you progress in your career but it’s an assumed requirement in this field.

As an analyst, you do all the grunt work and at the same time learn the types and nuances of data and become aware and efficient of the tools to do greater things and be more responsible for bigger things. Analysis is important but being able to scale and produce efficiently AND develop new tools and perspectives is what keeps you on your toes

like

As an analyst you’re responsible for pulling and analyzing data, visualizing the data appropriately, and maybe some presenting. Like someone else said, you’re doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. Work life balance can be an issue, but that’s with any position. Just make sure the benefits outweigh the sacrifices

like

to add to SM1’s points - show you can do the basics well and you’ll get asked to do bigger things.

Ditto what others have said. Spent 2 yrs as an Analyst / Sr. Analyst doing a lot of reporting, data analysis & viz; also important to get client-facing experience and learn to collaborate with account, strategy, creative etc

Thank you!! Very helpful 😊

That’s a good point! Always ask questions.

Can work/life balance be tough for the Analytics teams like it is for Planning and Buying?

Really depends on where you’re at in your career and also where your team is at. With turnover and fighting for business and the amount of material to learn, it is hard for work life balance but if it’s really something you like it shouldn’t be painful or a nuisance. It just have to be worth it for your career. If it’s not or you’re not gaining much from the hours spent, you’re either missing something or your manager is not managing well

every agency i’ve been at - it tends to be better.

Thank you both!

Thanks Senior Analyst, Digital Content 1!
