Corporate looks at the bottom line, your managers know and see what you do and probably fought the fight or will fight the fight to get you a promotion, but if the company is not financially sound at the end of the day, it all comes down to a business decision and what’s best for the company. Ask yourself, would you rather get a $2500 raise for the next 5 months or have a paying job for the next 5 years. You decide
Bring the confidence expressed in your post into the meeting with your boss. If they say no raises this year then maybe it’s a sign to move on. Sounds like you’re good at your job, so finding a new one shouldn’t be difficult. Confidence in these meetings go a long way
Yeah this is what i plan on doing, that way i can sympathize but also make It clear that I’d like to be considered for a raise.
Ultimately my plan is to try and go agency side soon or try and find a more creative opportunity. I’m planning on them saying “no” which will get the wheels in motion for eventually leaving. If they see that they’re losing talent based on pay/everything else going on, maybe it’ll help my coworkers eventually get the raises they deserve.
I’m in-house. I’ve prepared all my results - many of my campaigns and brands have performed exceptionally well. On Black Friday we beat plan by 140%. Project managers and marketing team members all fight over getting me placed on their projects (their words). Would obviously never say this, but shows that i hold value. I missed the COL raise because i was hired a month after the cut off. My company is struggling and just went through layoffs. I know this. My manager knows i know this. We’ve been through multiple office moves and the ExCo has really jerked us around. They moved us to New Jersey without telling us (after moving us to Brooklyn in a shiny new office).
I know only the results matter and that office changes shouldn’t impact It, but i think our CD knows he needs to keep us happy if he wants to keep us, so now may be the time to ask for the raise (but also may not be). What’s a good way to ask with kit gloves and to avoid affecting relationships?
All you can do is bring it up and politely and politically ask. Because if you don’t ask, someone else might and then they might get it. Don’t get passed up if it’s possible... even when they know your worth it will not be handed to you with out you asking.
