I would say so. People that are in a healthy mental state don't normally massacre people.

There are always going to be people with mental health issues or nefarious motives like domestic terrorism. This is the only country with such lax gun regulation that these people can just go and buy high-powered rifles so damn easily. Don’t stigmatize mental illness.

like

I don’t know why we should be terribly concerned with the feelings and stigma that would be associated with being a homicidal maniac. Seems like we want people to have a stigma such that they seek out treatment. The prescibing and then withdrawl of anti-depressants and SSRI is also likely an additional factor here because coming off those drugs, perception can be further altered.

And people without guns don’t have the means to do so. Not one or the other. The will and the way.

like

Many mass shooters ultimately kill themself or expect it from the police. This certainly isn’t all but they’re going to spend the rest of their life in one form of custody or another.

There are many countries that have people with mental health issues. You don’t see this happening there. There are many countries with no gun control or failed to impose gun control - guess what happens in those countries.

like

Did he do it with a rifle? It was a domestic situation that escalated, not a rampage shooter, so slightly different circumstances.

like

Yes but if he is a former detective and it was a domestic situation then I would expect it to be a handgun. Not making excuses just asking for information I hadn’t seen yet.

Maybe we should take a moment and look at the mental health issues around these instances rather than jumping directly to gun control. In the US we have no means by which to care for the chronically mentally ill. Almost all of the long term care options have been shuttered. I used to work as an EMT and saw first hand the pathetic revolving door for the severely mentally ill. Schizophrenics would go off of their meds and wind up on the streets. Inevitably they would create conditions that led to an encounter police. Police then have to deal with a horribly difficult situation. We would shuttle them to the emergency department, often restrained, so that they could be put back on meds and released back into society. It is a really sick and twisted way of caring for some of the most vulnerable in our society.

This isn’t an “active shooter” it’s a guy who was charged with bad stuff with a kid killing two women and a man....but letting a kid go. He knew them, for sure, and either snapped or premeditatedly murdered them. He ran a woman down and shot her in the street, this was the outcome that was going to happen whether he had a firearm or not. The bodies aren’t even cold and y’all are already talking about this with ill informed and clearly motivated takes.

Hi Fishes A bit off topic but relevant. Did anyone hear abt TekFog & Persistent Systems Limited ? Did they develop it ? What's going on ? I wanted to apply (location preference) but am worried now if company is into these sort of unethical activities even more so if they don't even know about it. Does anyone has any insights into it beyond the company blog post claiming they are not involved. Also how is the work culture there, are these sort things even believable for such company ?

I have a hard time getting along with my future mother in law. She likes to talk about money, judging people/me and I never heard her compliment others. I understand it maybe her culture and background make her that way. But every time after she visited us I am extremely unhappy. She is picky about food I make, always want things changed in my house etc. Herself is not wealthy like she acts so maybe that’s why she comes off that way? She visits us quite often and I don’t know what to do…

So I live in a state that offers paid family medical leave and my company makes me manage applications with the state. I am supposed to get part of my paycheck from the state and part of it from short term disability (managed by Sedgwick who are THE WORST.) I received no guidance from HR on the type of leave I needed to apply for with the state so followed the instructions I was given by the state. Apparently I was supposed to file for a different type of leave and now no one is paying me…

Does deloitte follow a balance sheet or an income statement type approach to calculate your bonus? Meaning let’s say you had a bad year and the ratings were low and the hike was low. Then next year, if you do exceedingly well and are on the top of the scatterplot, do you get paid the highest? Or will you still be below some people because you had a low starting point compared to peers.

Considering doing it 6 months before I do grad school full-time in a few years so saving up a bunch before then.
