Anxious q for people who went through 08/09 – will incoming first years likely be laid off or mostly starts delayed? Should I start thinking of a backup? Lit at V10 Biglaw if anyone can speak to that

Are you going to Latham? If so, you're f****d. That firm cannibalizes its young during every recession.

For most others in the V10, depends on practice group. Litigation tends to weather storms better than transactional.

How do you think your company is faring the new market conditions, and do you think the measures taken have been fair? So far at KPMG no layoffs, but no bonus or merit increases. Promotion increases are still happening, but hard to tell if promotions are going to be that common. Overall I believe the firm has done a good job of communication of measures taken both economically and logistically (not returning to office till at least 2021).

Anyone have any idea when the hiring freeze might end within AWS ProServ? I’m currently at Amazon and have a TS clearance, PMP & CSM. I come from a Big4 consulting firm with a background in Enterprise Performance. I’ll be honest and say I’m not feeling very safe in my current role with the ongoing layoffs. Instead of leaving, I’d love to go back to my “consulting roots” and join the ProServ team. I’m taking my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam next weekend. Hoping this freeze is lifted soon.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?

I worked 2 years for CTS and got recognized from global VPs for the projects I completed and business I gave. But they never even talked about promotion or calling me on-site after assuring it. Even the mail of recognition from my manager came a month later. This is how laid back CTS can be in India and now after keeping my papers they just came up after days saying we want to retain you as you are valuable asset and will send to on-site but it will take 2 months. This is when my LWD is in Oct 1

Hello! I joined a company in the UK 6 months ago, and received a £20,000 gross sign on bonus - clause associated to this however was that I stay for a minimum of 12 months. Unfortunately, the role is really proving to be the wrong fit, and I am looking to leave.

Question for you all - if I resign, I assume I would be expected to pay back the sign on bonus despite me only receiving approx 12k after tax. Anyone know the process for a tax clawback for something like this? Thanks in advance!

When an organization is not adequately staffed, be sure increase the number of meetings to address how to allocate people. Forcing negotiations at multiple org levels around the same decisions will ensure everyone is totally aligned.

This accomplishes three things:
1) Everyone is mad at each other since they’re competing for people
2) They’re confused and not able to pay attention to the root issue of chronic under staffing
3) They’re distracted from blaming mgmt for the root cause.

Have any of you taken "low bono" clients while working at a firm? I want to take on a low bono client or two but not sure who would get the money. This is a contract opportunity through a non profit so I'm assuming a 1099 will be issued. The per hour rate is significantly less than my billable rate. I would (obviously) like the money but my real objective is just getting experience/networking since I recently moved to a new state and don't have clients of my own.

Personal question for those of you in criminal law. I am in the process of hiring a nanny and recently ran a background check on my top candidate. An incident showed up on her criminal record from 1999 but it did not give any information as to what the charges were. When I asked her about it, she explained that it was a misdemeanor for shoplifting and she got it cleared 12 years ago and has no documents to verify it was a shoplifting charge.
