My personal opinion and totally fair for others to disagree, but...: In a profession full of insecure overachievers, it’s rly easy (and to a degree unavoidable) to get swept up in the herd mentality / rat race of constantly trying to outperform others. But what matters most in your early and mid-20s (and even beyond) isn’t necessarily performing best in that point in time, but rather, learning all that you can, and becoming someone that others want to work with (and this isn’t just about being a rockstar, but being dependable, coachable, etc.)

Nah, jk. Allow the job to push you in different directions and allow yourself to grow. Just like college, you never know where your interests really lie until you experience it. Be open to new experiences and be honest with yourself. Don’t say yes to the first job that comes around, but don’t be afraid to say yes to the unknown. Read If by Rudyard Kipling and understand what it means to you. That’s the gist.

Try some things out, have a great personality, be enthusiastic, try to learn from others as well as doing your own development/enrichment, network network network, set appropriate boundaries. Here’s a big one...don’t be cocky. This is just general advice and sounds easy enough, but there are enough assholes in the world that dont follow this mantra. It comes from oddly two spectrums...campus hires and experienced hires with like 5-10years experience.

Read articles about the solution you are delivering so that you can shape your own perspective. Also, don’t just ask questions to your EM. Tie in your suggestion with the question so it shows you’ve thought about the decision point.

I work with several people with kids and I have noticed quite often that they completely disregard any issues of people with no kids and try to one up work life imbalance conversations with stories of them being parents. It must be hard being a parent but I don’t think people at work should be treated differently or given any additional consideration just because they have a kid. You already get parental leave so If I’m expected to work 12hr I ask the same to be expected from my peers with kids.

I’m curious to hear from people at other firms what is offered in terms of part time work or alternative work options for people that don’t really care about making partner and might want to work part time. I just had my second child and want to ask to come back from maternity leave on a part time basis but our firm doesn’t seem to have anything in place right now. If your firm offers this, what’s the billable requirement, how much of a pay cut is it, and do you still get benefits? Thanks!

Anybody’s mom and husband don’t get along? Lol running out of ideas to have them get along. I have a newborn and my mum is here to help with him, and she and my husband don’t get along. Love my husband, he’s great and very helpful with the baby and for me as well in terms of emotional support (postpartum has been harder on me than I thought) but he and mum don’t see eye to eye. Some points of difference- mum is super religious whereas he’s atheist etc etc

I need advice, has anyone been in a similar sit? Met a guy on Bumble in March. He had gotten out of a 4 year relationship in December. We dated for 2 ish weeks, on date 3 we made out and touched (no sex but we both came). After the date he tells me he needs time to himself, his mind is all over the place. We’re May and he reached back out (to congratulate me for my sisters baby). Said he’s in a much better place mentally, wants to meet up. CONTd in comments

i’m in quite the dilemma - I have a new job that requires me to move to another state and remain virtual. However, I requested an exception to delay the move since I became pregnant and other reasons -i.e-no childcare in the state of moving and spouse can’t relocate with me at the current moment. I sent in a medical letter for my pregnancy care by my high risk specialist and they are reviewing this. I have since miscarried and still grieving. have no idea what to do.
