This is the best first gig you could hope for. Not only will you learn how to teach yourself and never stop being a student, you’ll also learn how to stay up on the latest trends and practices. It’s much easier to learn the ins and outs of several disciplines early on than to specialize in “account work” so early and lose the perspective from other disciplines. Knowing the challenges that other discliplines face makes you more empathetic to their cause and a better ally down the line. Trust me, this will be a life saver.
It isn’t easy, but try to appreciate the fact that you will sweat a lot now, but you’ll bleed a lot less later.
Hope this helps. And when in doubt, remember-NONE OF THIS MATTERS
Yes. I’d say keep track of what you’re doing specifically. Save documents and processes that you create and put in motion. Keep track how how you’ve directly influenced new biz or and increase in current client spend. Keep track of the results your work has had for your clients. Understand traditional agency roles and how you flex beyond your title with responsibilities generally seen with a person who has a higher title at another agency. Too often people doing what your doing try to move up but they’re overwhelmed by all that they’ve done so they say something like, I basically did everything. That’s not enough of a story. Sell yourself with your experiences, learnings, and client and agency wins you’ve influenced
4A’s has a lot of good courses. Some bootcamps can help you get up the learning curve quickly
. You’ve got a great opportunity to learn so much. And I assume some autonomy and room to make mistakes. Learn from that. Keep an eye toward the financial health of the agency and you’ll go far.
This is great to know! Do you think a reputable agency that works on large accounts will notice this even though I’m working on small local accounts?
That’s great to know! Thank you so much!
