Any advice for an experienced hire coming in specifically as a sr. manager/manager? Whether you yourself have that experience or worked for a new manager

Of the three SMs I personally knew who came in at SM as experienced hires, only one is still at the firm two years later. Be prepared to work hard and quickly learn the Accenture way. And I would not take on a counselee until you’ve been here at least a year or more- it’s not fair to the counselee if you do

I came in as an experienced hire and know of quite a few others. It's not easy, but if you develop strong relationships and manage expectations, it seems to help. Not quite at the two year mark, but many I know have been here over a year.

Make sure you understand the ask. I often repeat instructions/requests back to the MD to make sure I understood their intent. Ask if it's urgent or if other deliverables are dependent on the completion of the task. Request more time if a request is unreasonably complex or time consuming for the time allotted.

You would be better off coming in as top-of-band Manager than SM. You will be compared to SMs with a strong internal network and experience selling. You'd work 2x as hard to get the same outcome as seasoned SM and will burn out.
If the economy was good, there would be more runway to get fully productive but right now the expectations from SMs are extremely high if not unreasonably high.

SC Same here! Just started at ACN as a M when I am supposed to be mapped to SM. Where are you based at? Let’s connect! Feel free to DM me!

I came in as an experienced hire - lateral move. So I was already used to the demands of an SM. Still have to build a network and learn the nuances of how things are done at ACN. It’s not easy, but I’m beginning to feel the groove after a year.

At what point is it too late to switch to a career in programming? I studied supply chain management in college, but more and more I find myself wishing I had done computer science. I have been working as a business analyst for almost a year now and am curious if that is a realistic career jump. I have no programming experience, but it just seems way more glamorous than supply chain consulting. Curious what your guys thoughts are/if anyone has made a similar jump.

Has anyone ever made the jump from consulting to being a full time creative?

Recently I've realized that consulting isn't what I wanna do, but more broadly idk if a 9-5 business job is for me either. I've always wanted to make films and write books but I rarely see anyone in our industry make this kind of jump. Also finances 🥴

Overall I'm just not sure if I can see myself doing this for the next 30 years
