Any advice for moving into a Business Development Representative role in a tech sales role from an advertising role? Have developed great transferrable skills such as organisation and communication but is there anything I can do to hit the ground running?

I work as a membership manager in a tech-related, non-profit startup.Main tasks are taking care of members activities (newsletters, webinars, surveys, CRM - but not directly sales) and at the same time I am kind of a IT project manager without IT background, I design with an IT agency members experience with different tools (members platform, crm workflows etc). How could I boost my career towards the IT project manager role?

Anyone else done this thing for several years but still haven’t gotten a senior title? I’ve been consistently employed at agencies & been fortunate to work on some cool projects but feels like so many are ahead of me.

Curious to what an average salary for a IT Account Manager is? I feel I am underpaid (50K base). My yearly quota is $700,000 and I have hit that in the first 7 months. I do make 10% of what I sell. Inflation costs are killing my pipeline. Many of my deals are scaling back greatly because of their rising operating costs.

How do we overcome the inflation objection? I mean obviously the answer is to show how much value we offer, but how do we do that when all of the companies we work with barely have enough funding?

My manager casually threw out that she had an exec tell her it’s fine if she wants to close my division down next year. We are a niche team in a large company. I asked her to clarify as I am worried about my team (and me) she said we would be “well taken care of” as in receive severance…she was so casual about it and said she didn’t know what she would do - we’re performing well, but it’s a small market.
