Currently an engineer in MCOL area with 4 years experience (post graduating, not counting experience before/during college and large side gigs). I have a BS/MS/PhD in engineering and an MBA in business analytics. Currently making 100k as an engineer IV. As an engineer with a functional knowledge (but no former training) in IT and data analytics, what are the best avenues to get to 200k without changing fields and starting at an entry level position (or moving to a HCOL area)?

Thinking of switching from sales to a sales engineering role. Biggest difference is going to be higher base (plus bonus) with no commission or quota to carry. Either not getting them or not getting an offer because they go with a candidate with more experience (I have 1 year experience). Any advice for companies to apply to or with getting an offer despite not having as many years experience as others?

Work in internet/cable, Went on an interview with a competitor today, couple of what I think are red flags:
1. Interviewing for an ESR role, but had a coffee chat with a BDR “gearing up for an ESR role” BDR then said I was a better fit for BDR role
2. Recruiter would not disclose salary, but asked for range in Og interview
3. BDR “joked” about getting service set up in my building on interview
