Agreed with the previous poster. Whatever you do - don’t “chicken out” and give your notice by email. You have to do it by phone/video. The good thing about doing it remotely is that you can get away with taking a shot of tequila right before your call to calm your nerves! 🙂 (kidding!) Just take a deep breath and be ready for the uncomfortable questions. The call will be over before you know it. One thing to keep in mind - if you think your boss isn’t going to take it well (or you’re going to be working for a competitor), don’t be surprised if you aren’t allowed to continue working for your notice period and are asked to leave immediately. That’s pretty common and I have some friends who were caught off guard by it. Good luck!

Block some time on their calendar and let them know either over a phone call or video (the way you’ve been communicating). Write down what you’re going to say before; I’ve learned a great deal, thank you for the mentorship, etc.

Parenting question: Most of my extended family and in-laws are blue collar workers. While I went to grad school & did well in my career, they don't aspire for much & are very content working 9-5 manually intensive jobs. I realize I sound like a coastal elite, but ideas such as wealth creation and retiring early don't appeal to them. I'm concerned some of their ideas, especially the lack of drive, would impact my kid if they spent time with them. Is my concern valid & if so how to manage?
