Any advice on how to handle a situation where a parent wants to sue a teacher who reported them to child protective services? My understanding is the parent has no grounds for a lawsuit due to mandated reporter laws. Is this true?

That’s. True, just be. Careful 😊

In California at least much heavier penalties if you don't report even the merest suspicion of abuse. Parents have no grounds to sue you form acting a mandated reporter. They are games playing. You are completely protected. I am more concerned that CPS gave your name to the parents. This needs to be dealt with.

Yes. Check with your Special Education Department at state level or your District unit.

All of the district administration have said the teacher did nothing wrong and that the mandated reporter laws protect the teacher.

helpfullike

Ignore it. If it escalates, talk to district lawyers. But the teacher was following the law AND those reports are supposed tobe anonymous for a reason...

likehelpful

... District lawyers, or the teachers union may also provide protection.

How did they find out? They can’t tell Who reported in Illinois.

helpful

Sorry you are going through this.

likehelpful

How did they know a teacher reported. Suppose to be confidential?

helpful

Before a teacher comes to a final step, I am sure that teacher would not want to just jump into conclusion. There must be a systematic documentation to come up to a final decision making. IDEA, Teacher’s Union, the 14th Amendment should be able to provide a legal ground for that teacher.

smart

The parent only has standing if a fictional charge made to harass the parent. If the reporting was legit, mandated reporters are protected.

helpful

Teachers are mandatory reporters. No grounds for sueing. In fact there is a greater risk of job jepardy from not reporting.

like

YES YES YES!

Yes, by law you have to report it. You’re protected, even if you don’t have proof, but suspect. However, if you don’t report your suspicions, you can be prosecuted if it’s found you suspected/knew something and never reported it. You did what you were supposed to & should be fine.

If you have a fleeting thought which leans you to call on neglect/abuse/etc...please call

We are mandated reporters and she can threaten all she wants!! Won’t fly!!

You are immune. Let them try. You are a mandated reporter protected by law. Don’t even worry a moment.

Tell them to sue! Empower them. They’ll get nowhere fast!

Did anyone watch Ram Prasad Ki Tehrvi? My father passed away a few years and this movie looks exactly what happened to our family. Almost scene to scene (typical filmy drama aside). We are 6 siblings (4 sons and 2 daughters almost same age as these characters) and have similar family dynamics among us. Unless this is a common occurrence, I wonder if they had a camera in our family home during thirteen days of mourning and made a movie out of that inspiration.

I’m currently an IB analyst at a no name shop in LA. I’m employed as a 1099 and I currently get 70k/year + 5% of deal fees I’m staffed on. This makes my all in extremely variable as I made 210K in ‘19 and 70k in ‘20. We let someone go this year and I asked for a raise and he bumped me up to to that 5% from 4%. However we just signed up 4 new clients, which would greatly increase my workload as I’m the only junior guy. Would it be messed up to ask him to bump me to 100k base or I quit?

Two years in consulting (Senior Ass 😏). No promotion or raise. Another big 4 has offered something. Debating whether or not I should take it. 20% increase in pay plus title bump. Does it seem disingenuous to leave in the midst of client work that’s taking up a lot of time? Honestly don’t see a plus sign of sticking around.
