Make a list of all your duties as a nurse and how that can translate to other industries. Also make a list of your skills and look into converting those into a career. Put both lists together and start applying for jobs in those areas. It doesn't matter that you don't have the exact experience they may be looking for, if you've done it before as a nurse, you will be able to do the same things under a different job title!

Thanks for your advice, words of encouragement and wisdom. I like that idea of the lists. I will definitely do that. Thanks again!

Maybe you could focus on the insurance side of things? Like a verification specialist, analyst or something relating to fraud. Those things would probably be interesting to you because they'd allow you to use your problem-solving skills, and you can probably find roles that are WFH. Good luck!

I have been searching for positions in the insurance industry but it just seems like I don’t have the qualifications. I do apply anyway but haven’t had any luck. Thanks for the advice. I will keep trying.

I'd bet you anything that the skills you have from nursing in terms of problem solving and figuring out solutions, as well as managing a shifting and constant workload, will translate well into a case manager or review position. You may have to start out on the lower end of things and work your way up, but I would think you'd be a good candidate even without super specific experience. I would try to look into what exactly they'd be looking for, and try your hardest to gain those skills as quickly as possible.

I had a phone interview with a local company for case manager. There was no flexibility in the hours, starting a couple hours later to allow me to get my son off to school so that didn’t work out.

Have you tried changing careers? It is difficult to imagine someone who has to see patients in person to do it remotely.

Yes that’s what I’m working towards changing careers, moving away from direct patient care.

Hello! I'm an RT who worked in hospital and community and recently accepted a work from home as a Disability Case Manager. It will be a big change for me but I'm really looking forward to remote work and plan on finishing my Health Sciences degree also. I'm in Canada so here they have case managers, adjudicator etc., usually requesting a nursing or healthcare background. I think adjudicators for Veterans Affairs here desire nursing only.

I have seen some remote nursing care postings here in Canada, not sure where you are. But I'm sure you will find lots of opportunities. The great thing is if you try remote work and don't enjoy it, I'm sure you can easily get back to bedside care :)

Thanks for that information. I recently looked at some WFH jobs at the VA. The medical specialist seemed like it could be a good fit. I’m in Georgia. I will try goggling needs in Canada. Thanks again.

Update your resume. Really sit down and think about all the nursing tasks you've done and include the ones that are most relevant to whatever WFH position you want. Apply to every job you think you'd like and go from there. I recently interviewed for 2 WFH nursing positions and I have less than 5 years bedside-only experience. One job was pretty much on-call triage and the other was case management. From my research some case management roles require a lot of phone time and some not so much. It just depends on the company. The same goes for utilization review.

Okay. I’m wondering if my issue is because I worked in a specialty. Thanks for your suggestion.

Hi. You might think about getting a certification???

I have a coworker in my group at the same level that constantly what's to compare our performance (reviews, utilization, projects). To me it seems like underlying jealousy or insecurity. Personally, my philosophy is I do my best and let the chips fall where they fall. Not really worried about comparing myself to others. How do I manage this?

Just curious to know the offer process period(days) and why would it take more than 3 days when the LOI has all band, role and salary breakup which means i presume that there are no approval delays. At what point do you know that it’s time to leave a new position? I have always excelled in my previous jobs and left a cushy position for this agency. But since day one, I have been struggling to adjust. I started not long after lockdown began in my city, and am starting to regret taking this new job.

I’m used of multitasking, constant stress, and looming deadlines at work. But I can’t seem to get the hang of things here.

I am in constant fear of getting fired. I can’t sleep, eat. Help?!

If you're looking for inspirational films about addiction I highly recommend The Resurrection of Jake the Snake Roberts. It's a documentary about the wrestler who had about as bad an addiction problem as you can imagine. It goes through his problems, despair, but also shows his road to recovery through platonic love, support, and he finds redemption. It's great for anyone like me that tried and failed to get sober for years. I have over a year now for the first time.
