LOTS of ADVANCE prep work. How many vehicles? Makes? Models? Trim level? Color? This is a meeting you should have with your client before you begin bidding. Always have at least 2 of each model in case something happens. Where are you shooting? Who is sourcing your vehicles - agency specialist or client? You’ll need client approved car prep company who will take delivery of sourcing and be at your shoot. That cost may or may not go on your client estimate depending on the client’s arrangement with car prep - which could be one of two companies if your location is west or east of The Mississippi River. You’ll need a precision driver or two. Stunts? Drivers are usually paid on camera SAG scale or slightly above but go on an extra contract so they don’t get residuals - unless there are stunts. Stunts start at taking the vehicle off-road. Normal city or hwy driving is not a stunt. Put money in post for cleanup (odd reflections, rig removal, sky replacement). Generic license plates. Tinted windows? How much tint? Usually 50%. Make sure the DP has sheet metal experience. Have a pre pre pro meeting once you have your vehicles and locations to make sure the client is onboard. Get your talent approved before the pre pro. Pre pro should be all about the Director’s shooting boards and what the vehicles are doing.
