Ask to shadow someone in the sales department for three reasons: 1. You feel passionate about .... (sales or clients). 2. Collaboration across departments will add value to you and your colleagues... 3. It will make you happy to learn more about the company. Offer to do the above in your own time, work on this project on your days off... That’s the first step. Happy to give more advice if you are prepared to do the above. Best of luck

This is great advice- thank you. I know a couple people on the sales side (we work interconnectedly already).

The best candidates stand out because they have the skills needed, show that they can learn, and are a good personal fit. It's challenging to make the switch you're aiming for. Have you reached out to people within your company in roles or teams you're targeting to see if they have any tactical advice? Or friends or university contacts at your company or others?

If you face off to the desk you want to move to in your job, become obsessive about serving their needs. E.g. if you support the equities desk, your goal should be to be their saviour and go to person for everything. Extremely reliable route to the desk by doing this.

Why do I feel so guilty about wanting to take another offer and leaving my team? I like my current teammates just HATE the client and project. I’ve also asked for a raise multiple times and have been told no. I’m underpaid but am up for promotion this year (June). I don’t think Deloitte can/willmatch. I want to take the money but I feel like I’m still learning leaderships skills and can see the potential for beefing out the management portion of my resume. What would you do? (Offer 50% more)

So I left B4 risk assurance because I found the work a drag and moved to a boutique place where I was hoping to get a better experience or shape my career the way I want. However, this place isn’t what I was expecting and the project I’m on requires deadly hours and is staff aug. I’m looking to do this for a year and go back to b4 (as I like being in a bubble) but a different service line. How possible is this?

i just had an excellent review with my supervisors. we are aligned i am ready to be promoted. i will be moving from project manager to senior project manager. the catch; my company has laid off 75% of its staff, and cut our salaries by 25%. timing is unclear, since we work in the live entertainment space. what is fair to ask for? i have 7 years work force experience, am the only one in my position, touch every creative deliverable the agency makes, and updated and streamlined 10+ processes.

I’ve been through 5+ weeks of interviews with a company that will IPO next year and they did a bait and switch on me with the offer: it was advertised as “Head of” and then during the offer-walk-through-meeting today they said “oh btw we changed the title to ‘Senior Manager’ for this role”. They offered me a salary I made 4 years ago as a manager. They offered stock options with an exercise price TBD 1 year from now…which is when they’re hitting IPO. Is that normal for stock options?

So my 18yo daughter who just started college texted me that she wants to do solo Europe travel in December and mom (my ex wife approved it). My daughter has traveled extensively in the US and abroad with me. However, she has never traveled even to a neighboring town in the US solo and is just learning what it means to live by herself as a freshman. I'm very concerned for her safety but if I put my foot down, my daughter will detest me. How do other parents in this bowl see the situation?
