Any advice on transitioning into healthcare tech from registered nurse?

Do you have a specialty that would be useful to a healthcare IT company? Quality measurement is always very valued or patient safety, or these days if you have any experience with social determinants of health / health equity efforts. Or if you can add value to usability / human factors work as a clinician.

Bottom line is you need skills relevant to a position. In tech, that's generally not medicine. The highest paying are probably coding and sales. The medical stuff is domain knowledge, but domain knowledge is often second to doing the job.

Kind of like how having language skills is pretty essential for an RN role at an ethnic neighborhood clinic, but the baseline is still some degree of medical know-how. Else you'd just be an interpreter, not a bilingual nurse.

Speaking as someone who works in health IT, there are definitely roles for clinicians who don’t code.

Yeah everything so far is clinical critical thinking skills (medical knowledge & interventions). Where should one even start to build skills to get into healthcare tech or what are some good resources that can help?

OP, you're just saying you want to get into healthcare tech without giving us any more details. The IT/tech field consists of so many different jobs and responsibilities that you have to provide more info or else we can't help you. In healthcare tech, there are tech, product, management, etc roles.

Why do you want to get into the field? Meaning, what is it you think you would want to do? Sales, as stated above, could be good - many companies have clinicians who help with the sales process even if they aren’t commissioned. Or do you want to review CQMs from payers and provide input to the product teams as to what new requirements are? Or do you want to review incoming patient safety concerns from clients and assess whether there truly is a risk of adverse events and then provide clarity to the product teams as to what needs to be changed to fix those risks? You need to identify what YOU want to do and would be passionate about before you can really assess what you’d need to do to build an attractive skill set.

If you’re purely looking for an entry point into these companies I would consider Customer Support. It’s not glamorous or particularly high paying BUT you will learn an incredible amount about both the customers and the product in a short amount of time. If you excel at the role you can quickly look for opportunities to transition to other departments.

Hello everyone,

I have 6 years of exp in IT
Recently I got offer from Amdocs, From
Naukri.com, I was applying as a mssql developer,
In interview also they asked regarding sql concepts.

But I am not clear about the job profile,
As they just scheduled the interview directly and it happened.

Will after joining they will move me to any in house tech, or the job will be relevant with my profile only.

I mean i am switching only to work on good tech. Dont want to get stuck again in in-house technology.

Or wait until the project picks up more and invest more time in training the team?

I’m almost done with my MBA but I’ll have to take out a loan to pay the last bit of it. I’ve paid about $30k out of pocket and I’ll have $18k that I’ll have to take a loan out for. I have a brokerage account that has $10k in it. Would it make sense to pull that money out to pay for the majority of what I have left or to just get a loan? I’m meeting with my FA in the summer but am just curious for other opinions. Keep in mind I make $53k and I have a 401k, Roth IRA, and traditional IRA as well.

Is it normal for an agent to ask for my financials before a sales contract is signed with the seller? For context, this co-op apt has been on the market for about a year. Seller had two previous buyers that were rejected by the board. From what I was told, the board was not unreasonable. But the seller (and the agent) wants to make sure I was qualifiable, I suppose, which is why they asked. From my POV, I'm giving up a lot of sensitive info when there's nothing binding. Seems out of order.
