What’s a normal partner to associate ratio at a good firm? Realized recently that mine is 4 partners to every 1 associate which seems kind of insane. Would love others’ input.

I have a junior associate working with me on a case. I try hard to be cognizant of giving plenty of time, being available for questions, and explaining the assignments thoroughly at the outset. This associate doesn’t do the work they are assigned, but is always trying to do things no one asked them to do that don’t actually help. I’m all for empowering junior associates but it’s getting frustrating. Any advice? I don’t want to throw the associate under the bus.

I think I’m burning out - worked at least 250 hours every month since October &, while I’ve lately been trying to not work weekends, I’m feeling apathetic & behind. Advice on how to correct employee without hurting their feelings? Emp is making constant and repetitive errors. I am not cruel, not yelling, not name calling, nothing like that, but I am short and to the point, no fluff. “Why did/didn’t you do this?”, “This needs to be fixed now”. I expect things to be done right and on time without me having to constantly double check or monitor them. Employee is complaining that I’m hurting their feelings. How do you handle when an employee screws up? Advice?
