Any advice (re interview/resume/job hunt) for a foreign law grad doing a LLM (done at Yale/Stanford/Harvard) to join a NY V5-V20 firm after graduation? Did not previously work as a lawyer in foreign jurisdiction, but want to join a Cap Markets practice at one of said firms.

I did an initial interview with a firm Thursday morning. They asked for references and I provided them the following day along with my thank you note. In past experiences, I would have heard something by now unless they were not interested at all. Am I wrong to just write this one off?

Question to the partners / MDs here. Was it worth it? Do you regret not moving industry when you had a chance (if you did)? Are there any exit opportunities once you pass director?

My goal is to counsel clients on how to respond to media inquiries without saying or posting something detrimental to a potential litigation while still maintaining communication with their client base. If so, how to break into that industry? Courses? Books? Certifications?

I didn’t really choose law enforcement as my career but I’m glad I became a police officer. Helping people has always been my passion. Comment some times when you got to help people because of this job!

AOS /AP/485 processing is going on with EB2 to EB3 downgrade. Haven’t received any receipt yet since filed in late Oct.

Accepted an offer at a firm and then another firm I was initially interviewing offered me 15% more. I want to stay at the original firm I was offered due to the structure of it. Would it be bad if I let the recruiter know at the original firm about receiving another offer that is more and ask if they can give me a signing bonus or try to match it? I don’t want to risk getting my offer rescinded.. side note: I already negotiated the comp from the original firm for 10% more than they offered me

Advice for how to handle the HR Director my organization is the most toxic person in the City, causing turmoil in departments, sharing disciplinary info about others with everyone she speaks to, bad mouthing people. Who do we go to for a complaint against an HR Director? The City Administration is aware and doesn’t do anything.

A large number of Finance partners joined my firm about as year ago from a less regarded firm known for its terrible, low-brow culture. In the group of joiners, there is one female partner who is incredibly rude, crass and disrespectful on a level I have never seen before. What should I do to avoid being staffed on deals with her? School was never very motivating for me, and I put way more effort into internships and networking than my studies during law school.
