Any advice re: moving to in-house for coms from an agency, ideally with a focus on internal or corporate communications? I have a few years of agency experience and a very robust writing background. In-house roles seem harder to find than agency ones which I keep getting recruited for. I'm not 100% opposed to an agency, but all of mine have burned me out, and my friends doing in-house coms for big orgs seem to have much better work life balance, higher salary, & are overall much happier. Tysm!

Yeah I definitely say move to in-house. I had one agency gig for 3 years and recently thought of going back and talked with someone who was a CMO for an agency and they strongly discouraged me from agency work again and I agree, looking at the two.

The balance is definitely there. I worked for large brands and smaller ones. All seem to have fast and slower seasons of the year with is great and needed.

Yeah. Shoot me a dm. If you can’t. I’ll message you. We can chat more.

Work life balance is significantly better at an in-house and you get to pretty much just focus on just one brand and how to elevate it. Internal communications is really great and more freedom as well. You’re the champion of really elevating that brand ownership of one brand. It’s not as competitor as agency either. Everyone gets along well and their focus is the same as yours. Atleast where I am. I am a designer for an in house brand and they call it an in house agency. But I really like it. It’s more balance but you get to do a lot of create stuff for the company and be proud of the work you did. Internal comms always has fun ideas on how to elevate the brand for employees, etc. pay is better and so are benefits. Deff recommend it.

Ugh I so appreciate you! Will dm you!

I’ve got a really good job. Wasn’t looking to move but a big 4 consulting firm reached out. I received a very generous/life changing offer. I’m so worried about work/life balance if I take this offer. Also worried about layoffs in a year or two when the market gets back to normal. I’ve got an infant and a 5 year old. I know that I can manage my current workload. I don’t want to pass up a great opportunity but I’ve got to be available for my family too!

I don’t like managing people, especially juniors who are still figuring out their career paths. But at my company, in order to be considered a leader, you have to manage people. I see myself as a leader, contributing ideas and strategy… I just don’t want to deal with developing performance goals and compensation. Is this the case everywhere? Can I be a creative leader without managing?

How long is too long to wait for a raise? I've been waiting seven years and have had 2 title (and responsibility) promotions since the last raise. My manager says I deserve it and am long overdue. The CEO says we "can't afford it" and that "there are things that matter more than money." That's easy for someone not living paycheck to paycheck (during an inflation crisis) to say. I don't know what to do. How long is normal to wait? Especially with an employee's market like this?
