By this argument, another person will wonder why they can’t have 1 bag at 35 and another at 11. It’s about the safety of the people handling and lifting your bag.
That’s BS, especially when you can carry 30kg flying business class.
Agree with this. Baggage handler safety is the biggest BS when airlines also allow 30kg bags.
set requirements for weight balance and CG.. there are parameters (size and weight) to help put the luggage in the cargo compartment to meet the weight balancing requirements to allow for safe airplane travel.
Weight & balance, baggage handler safety, and the check in people don't have time for back & forth over a few kgs/lbs so we can carry more stuff! 😊
Baggage handler safety limits are a very real thing. Many airlines don’t allow 30kg even for biz class passangers
It’s mostly about revenue. Better balance and understanding of customers luggage allows better calculations in how much freight can tag along. Freight pats better. Can’t* [really] overload a big plane.
I fly privately and I get to tell my buddies how much crap they are allowed to being. Then I weigh it again before it’s loaded. Small planes are easily overloaded and their CG is super critical.
Two reasons, Max payload and Weight distribution, and Pricing. The 21, vs 25 isn't necessarily a major issue in terms of payload but a good way to monetize based of an industy rule. It is also easier to manage one rule, hence why you don'thave to many variants, but also if you have too many combinations of 50lbs (15 + 35 or 10 + 40 or 5+45, etc), it makes the payload distribution exercise more complex. For example, If I know I need 90% of bags to be 0 to X lbs, and 10% can be X+Y (Y= 0 to Max allowable minus X) it becomes easy to arrange and distribute the cargo. This reduces complexity of loading the plane, and balancing the weight, which saves time, and equates to $$$ savings.
Lol, this is the whole point i.e. why you need to know upfront. Then it became easier to manage/train.
