Better idea: hire these creatives instead. That’s the only good deed you could do at this point.
AD1, That’s a great question. My big watch out (personally and I hope for our industry) is this: big brands are asking their agencies to help them develop and roll out big ideas, mostly around racial equity and other major social issues. Do they want to look good because this is trendy right now? Or do they want to fundamentally rethink what good corporate citizenship is?
If Stan Richards was someone other than the crypt keeper of advertising, and someone interested partnering with their agency as they take the long road towards institutional change, he would have said something else. Anything else. Hell, he’d have the humility to understand that he might not be the best guy for that job, or even run his own company.
But his mission is, Make the client a shit ton of money, so that I can make a shit ton of money. Period.
This is a long way of saying this: many of us are working with clients who say they want to change the way they do things (be more environmental; be more inclusive; hire more women; end racism; blah blah blah). We’re the ones who can decide whether to work with them or not, and can vet for ourselves how sincere they really are.
And to finally answer your question, I don’t know anything about Minecraft. I just know I don’t want to work for ethically compromised clients, and I personally am gonna do my best to shape my career to meet that end. 🤷♀️ hope it works, we’ll see.
I'm doubtful here. I know a few people that work at HD corporate and have never heard anything about them being toxic.

Motel 6 i get. The rest? Seems like we’re making big accusations for no reason
I would not blacklist someone for working at Home Depot. I would be cautious of someone who worked under or with the former CEO while he was still there. We each have our own levels of comfort, though, and I respect that.
I’ve worked with Home Depot before and genuinely enjoyed working with them - any reason you say this?
I feel the same D1. Always had a good relationship with my old THD clients and they were pretty open to agency recommendations
Last year Motel 6 agreed to pay $12 million, mostly in damages, after its employees were found to have provided Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents with information on 80,000 guests.
Also it was a franchisee acting on his own accord. Not corporate. Or something corporate would ever condone or tolerate.
