At IBM the benefit of booking through Concur with your corporate card is that you won’t automatically get in trouble for booking travel in an unapproved way
Gotcha, I am part of a company that is in the process of TOE with IBM, so will soon learn about all that fun stuff...
Concur holds the corporate rate for flights so the flights are probably cheaper. Also, concur tracks mileage etc which would be used to calculate eligibility of firm frequent flier programs (eg 75k club at PwC)
If your corporate travel contracts are well negotiated, you'll get anywhere upto 35% discount for the same fare bucket vs booking outside of Concur.
On top of that, your employer almost certainly gets volume based discounts/rebates/offsets on total spend over a year, which can only be tracked by bookings made via the travel portal.
Might also be a factor if you need to make a claim against your employer's insurance for travel delays/accidents/lost goods.
bigger drawbacks. you’re not booking directly with the airline, so no points multiplier for credit cards. credit card benefits also don’t kick in (luggage delay reimbursement, etc). concur is a control mechanism used by your company to horde points and centralize issues.
My airline charges always come through with the airline as the charging merchant. Concur is only a front end.
Does your company not require it to be booked through concur? At least for airfare in particular.
