Any best practices for tracking finances while using a personal card for expenses? I love Personal Capital, but it's a mess with my reimbursements. Using different cards would miss points. Ideas?

I use YNAB, which makes you categorize every transaction. All reimbursable spending and reimbursements go into a separate category. This also makes it easy to fill out expense reports. It’s not great for the investment side, but I basically only have VTSAX anyway so I have limited use for personal capital

like

Mint for expenses and budgeting. Personal Capital for investments

like

That’s exactly what I do.

I second YNAB and I don’t really have too many reimbursements to worry about. Categorizing every transaction sounds cumbersome but the app is very intuitive and you can fly through them either daily or save until the end of the week to categorize.

In Mint you can create a custom tag and then set a rule to hide any transaction with that tag from your income/expense trends, graphs, etc.

I use mint for tracking these expenses and you can have reimbursements just offset business expenses. When viewing trends it will just appear as a net zero summation which doesn't through off your analysis.

Very helpful! Sounds like mint is the easiest tool for keeping track and ignoring expenses

I moved back in with my parents in August, and my mom and stepfather have demanded monthly rent. They are in no way poor at this moment in time, and in my opinion it’s f*cked up to demand your child pay rent. It can be impossible to deal with financial losses due to declining health or unforeseen circumstances by not having life insurance. In these cases, the solution to your debts (that can affect the financial stability of you or your loved ones) may fall within the category of life insurance.

How much cash do you keep in bank accounts? I have 50% in RE, 25% in market through retirement and education accounts and 25% in cash. Always think it’s too much cash but have never been able to gather courage to put more than 25% in market which I already have through 401K and 529. Any ideas on what to do with money just sitting in the bank earning no interest with 9% inflation eroding the value every single day
