Any clear guidance to keep in mind to avoid a wash sale rule trigger? Like, can I switch from the mutual fund to an ETF of the same?

I wouldn't do that. Try something like VOO and VTI.

I have the mutual fund equivalents, so this is exactly what I was talking about.

There is unfortunately not much clear guidance other than it applies to substantially identical security. Selling VTI and buying VTSAX would likely be a problem since they are classes if the same fund. Selling one SP 500 fund and buying another could likely be a problem. I try to make sure they track different indexes but even then, they could be extremely similar and be a question.

like

Why not sell VTSAX and buy VOO or IVV. You could sell the growth and buy something like IVW.

I’m contemplating something similar. I have VOO, VO, VB, VXUS, VNQ and VTI. I need to sell them all for something else 🤦

Thanks 🙏

Update: Vanguard only reports as a wash sale if it’s the exact same fund in 30days. However, they’re “not allowed to give tax advice as the IRS may think differently”.

After being at a string of failed startups (one blew up after I left with no equity 😅) working on and paying for my degree all along the way, I have $40k in debt, $10k cash (after one year of saving post graduation), and make $120k total. I’m 40 next year and want to break the cycle, where the hell do I start? For reference, I want to travel and enjoy life but also want to have a solid savings. Probably my biggest issue is that I give zero f%*>s about money, it gives me very little value.

Is my bar too high in this day and age if I want guys to at least ask me out in person instead of reaching out on social media having never met me in person before? I just like when you have the guts to approach me in person instead of hiding behind a keyboard, or start with wanting to get to know me and not coming on too strong if we've never met.

I empathize that it's more comfortable for us to hide behind our keyboards, but I also like a guy with guts and conviction.

So yesterday I woke up with an awful migraine; probably one of the worst I’ve ever had. It just so happened that my wife and I had things planned with the kids, but I literally couldn’t get out of bed. Long story short, my wife is still pissed that I spent most of the day in bed because of how I was feeling, and in her words, I should have just “sucked it up and dealt with it for us.” This pisses me off to no end. And she’s still being in a bitchy mood today on top of it!

I’m starting a business and need about $50K in upfront costs. I’ll fund half with cash and am looking to take a loan (which by my projections can be paid off in year 1) for the other $25K.

Would you recommend taking the loan through my personal name or through the company, assuming the interest rate for year 1 is 0%? I feel like it will take awhile to get the $25K for the business as the loan receiver pre-revenue… right?

2% employee contribution: 1600
First 3% employee match at 100%: 2400
Second 2% employee match at 50%: 800
