It’s not my personality to let my manager know of everything I’m working on - I’m heads down and I get the job done and only bring him in if I need help. However, I’m now learning that this is hurting me because my more vocal colleagues are being recognized for tasks I already do. I just hate these corporate games. Why isn’t it enough to just do the work well?

I am an HR “Manager” with 8+ years experience. Bachelors in HR and a SHRM-CP cert. Currently employed at a manufacturing facility w/ 80 employees in Metro Detroit, Michigan (Macomb Twp). I am a department of one with no direct reports under me. I feel as though my role is more of a “generalist” position as my duties are more aligned with that. I am currently at $75k and promised to be increased to $82k in the next month. Bonuses are discretionary and never the same amount. Fairly compensated?

I’ve worked as a Histocompatibility technologist at a large company for 10 years. I am lead tech now and I know that I am underpaid and have been informed that no matter what extra degrees or certifications I obtain would end in a raise. I am an ASCP certified med tech and ACHI certified Histocompatibility specialist with a bachelors in clinical laboratory science. I’m tired of being undervalued.
