Any consultants on the Tier 2 General visa who ended up working from outside UK? Accenture wouldn't approve the request to work remotely, so I did it for 60 days anyway but I'm worried if it would impact my ILR application.

You should be fine. I know people who worked outside of the UK constantly and without company approval but still got ILR. The rule is that you can spend “no more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12 months”. When you submit your time outside of the country for the past 5 years, the form asks for a reason. Your reason could be travel, visiting family, etc. I honestly don’t think the Home Office cares about the reason as long as you don’t go over 180 day limit.

For ILR as far as I understand , you are permitted to stay outside for up to 60 days. Any time beyond 60 days will affect the 5 year continuous stay clause . It should not be a problem if your employer re-sponsor you ( you will need that anyway for ILR) . I would suggest when it comes to it , have a chat with a proper immigration lawyer . The community can advice based on experience but the laws and rules change so often, it’s best to speak to a immigration lawyer .

Appreciate your input, D2 is right - I had been employed by Accenture for the entire duration so it wasn't an issue on those grounds, as you get up to 180 days in a 12 month period

like

I have worked outside of U.K. last year. I spent a total of 2.5 months which I told the partners about but not HR formally For ILR, you have to ensure in any 365 day period you are not out of the U.K. for more than 179 days. Going through the ILR process right now and immigration lawyers have said it’s all fine Tax implications, I am unsure.

@LEK1 Did you get your ILR?

like

You’re in violation of international tax law but other than that you’re fine

Lol

Think it's a tax issue, not an immigration issue. I worked 6 days outside but got it approved - 60 is a bit much.

like

Sorry, only 6 days, not 66. I know other people who've done 5 months as well tho but kept it under the radar.

I have a team mate who had to. She ended up taking PTO after 60 days

Can somebody explain to me how unauthorized absences go with Home Office at the point of ILR application? Providing letters confirming holiday, business travel and other absences from work from the past and present employers is an obligatory element in the ILR application - assuming that your employers did not allow you to work from abroad, those absences will come up as gaps in UK presence, potentially leading to ILR problems?

Even when you do your Biometrics Appt, it’s very hands-on. I thought they’d ask me a ton of questions about my application…. they literally scanned my passport, took my photo and fingerprints, then told me I was done. I felt a little unloved tbh 😂

Question— do you share your comp with close friends? Me and my roommate have been friends forever and while I don’t really share my specific pay, Im not sure if I should share it with her. When she got promoted she told me her comp tho I didn’t ask. Today I found out I was promoted (🎉) and left that part out. She asked me if I knew what my raise would be and I just told her the % but not the actual amount. Is that unnecessarily secretive? We’re in diff industries too.
