I never teach to the month because you won’t get much done. I teach World History l, and I talk characters and stories from everywhere. They have different ethnicities, genders, religions, sexual orientations. This way feels more natural to me. Black history, lgbtq history, women’s history is really only world history or U.S. history. Fredrick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Alexander the Great (bisexual) are part of all our histories. They belongs to a time and place. We just need to make sure they are talked about when that time appears in our study. At least my two cents...
that makes sense if you teach history, but if you teach another subject like English, I like to incorporate historical events when I can fit it in and when it's timely/being talked about.
