Any current or former Protiviti employees have insights to the various roles or projects? Wanted to get some perspectives on their consulting practice

It’s basically all SOX audits. It’s hard to get on other types of projects. I wouldn’t go for it unless you like SOX and internal controls. It’s why I left to join external (more variety of work and experience offered in external).

Not true ^ really depends on your solution/business line. If you are considering IAFA then yes mostly Internal Audit including SOX on both the business and IT side of the house. I work in tech consulting and do mostly pen testing/identity access management. More info on what position will help you get better answers.

Thanks again for sharing details. Curious as to more information including the ‘good, bad, ugly’ so to speak for IAFA

Protiviti 1 it was 100% true at the office I was at. We saw some very high turnover (like worse than Big 4) in that region for that reason. The IT Consultants (and most Tech Consultants) were stuck doing IT audits. Only 1 tech consultant actually got to do tech consulting type of work. I would advise to do more research at the local office level of where you’re considering to join, as that will be a better indication as to what you’re getting yourself into. It was rare for someone to be involved in work that Protiviti 1 was describing (at least at my office).

Yeah, I definitely would take what recruiters/meets-offs say with a grain of salt. I’m not saying it’s a bad firm or anything. People are generally nice and it can be a bit more laid back than big 4. But just be cautious of what you’re getting yourself into as it’s not always transparent. If you go through interviews, I would make it a point to ask what the weight of projects are in that office (I.e. how much of it is SOX audits vs SOX implementation, etc.) If you’re coming from an external audit role, it’s likely they will stick you into the IAFA solution (the bulk of people are), which is all SOX audits. People generally don’t see the technology consulting side unless they have prior experience or have a specialized degree from school. Also, the weight of consultants in the technology solution is very small compared to the weight of consultants in IAFA. It’s important to understand those differences. It wouldn’t hurt to network with people on LinkedIn that you see are Protiviti or ex-Protiviti in your region. I can tell you that what I’m saying is very relevant to the California offices from my experience. I left about a year ago.

Also, how do the Protiviti titles work after Senior Consultant? I see Senior Consultants I/II on Glassdoor, is there also a 3rd year prior to promote to manager?
